Rebuilding my tranny with G25M-R gears

Well, I found a G25M-R tranny from a V6 Probe for $800. I am gonna rip the gears out of it and stuff in my G15 tranny. I think the G25 my be geared a bit lower, but not sure. Hope this works

My only other options are:
New G15 tranny from Mazda - $2650

World Challenge MP3 Racing gears - $1800 for just 3rd, 4th, and 5th, would still need 1st and 2nd and syncros and more s***

AWD Sport 20 Tranny - $550 but not sure if it would work with 2wd and don't feel like spending the $$ for AWD conversion right now.

NC, I haven't been following your tranny woes, cause I know just how bad that sucks and didn't want to hear about it. But now I'm wondering just what it is that lets go. I assume from this post the the syncros are breaking off, or the gears are failing on the shafts. Either way, if the shafts are holding, there are ways to strengthen your gears, and cut them for harsher service. That's probably just what the WC gears are anyway. I've had to do this with many of my motorcycles, and have had good success. Contact a good transmission specialist (and I don't mean Aamco), before you sink 8 bills into a scrap tranny.

How'd you verify that the G25 gears will fit on the G15 Shafts? If they do, I'd still recommend a heat treating before putting them in, just to be sure.

Craig @ Tripoint confirmed the tranny swap. Just the bell housing is different. This is just a temporary solution, I need my car hehe. I am looking into other options for later. Spending $800 on a tranny is better then $2600 though, and if I break this one it will be $800 for the next one hehe. I am stepping down in the clutch too, dishing the 6 puck.

Mazda does make a FWD sport 20. Corksport MAY be able to locate a tranny for you....maybe.

How much would it cost to go all wheel drive for parts?? And labor. Hell if I could do this than I can contend with WRX's
