Rear wheel well cover material looks questionable

I have this on my Speed6 and must be stock for sound. About to spray some plastic it. I notice ice damns up onto it easy in the winter and thinking if I put plastic on it this spring it may repel much of the water before it freezes to the well in the winter.

And many posters seem no longer here anymore...

I had doubts on this material used in the rear wheel well cover too when I was installing the rear splash guards.

Old threads can be good threads!

VW has been using something similar for many years... I had some on an old VW Fox from 80's in both front and rear wheel wells. It held up great and was very much quieter, especially on rainy wet roads, as the high frequencies of the water splashes are severely attenuated. I was also surprised how well it shed mud glops compared to simple plastic pieces on my Acura.

It acts as a very efficient spray suppression too meaning you get quite a clear wake or plume in your mirror on a rainy day. It's also much easier to remove and refit as it is very flexible. I had them all off recently to spray wax behind and compared to plastic that only wants to slide into a completely unimpeded openening, you can fold them between existing fittings without any damage.
