Rear licence plate lights

Hi to all,

Would anybody know where we can find these "LED" bulbs for the licence plate? I saw some Lexus that has a type of blueish lighting and wonder if we can easely swipe the factory standard bulbs that we have, for this type of technology?

Thanks

I put Stealth bulbs for the front and rear turn signals, that orange is just too ugly. Especially with the white pearl paint. I swapped out the front and rear overheads and the cargo light with LED's, as well as the plate lights.

^^ Some pics would help, I want LEDs for the fender signals but other subtle changes may look good too...

If it ever gets above -10C again I will take some pics.

I would like to swap the side markers as well, but they come as complete units and I haven't found any that a) are inexpensive b) shipped from Taiwan.

:)

There is a member from Denmark somewhere here who offers them, they might ship to Germany...

395DKK, I think is around USD$75...

it is very easy to install the LEDs, just remove the panel on the hatch. 2x 194 leds. I replaced mine with a hyper-white LEDs from eBay.

I replaced every possible bulb on the car with LED, with the exception of the turn signals on the side of the car.

A little searching sheds light on this issue...pun not intended.

It's for Mazda3's but I think all the replaced lights are the exact same.

And for the record. I like that our little Mazda5 section doesn't flame each other for not searching. We don't take up a lot of realestate around this domain at all. So I'm always just happy to see some new discussion topics posted. Happy light switching.

Tips on removing the License Plate Light Cover

For those who have switched the license plate lights, could you please advise on how you did it? I tried prying off the cover with a flat screw driver through the holes but it doesn't seem to come off. I am afraid I might break the cover if I use more force. Pictures would be great and thanks for the help!

i just pulled it off with my hands starting from the top where the window is. right where the window wiper is, just start to pull back slowly, they just pop off.

good luck.

Excuse for being a smart ass but the owner's manual has detailed instructions on how to change every bulb on the car.

Replaced my licenseplate with a self-luminous one

I purchased LED modules from BMW. They should fit, but I never really tried it.

almost all BMW models have them now.
Just replacing the bulbs with LEDs is not allowed in Germany. You need lights with an "E" approval, that's why I came across the BMW lights.

I finally got a self-luminous license plate, that looks even better than exchanging the bulbs with LEDs. The license plate is semi transparent.

It's mounted on a "light box", that iluminates the plate from behind. At least in Germany these plates are available and approved.

Unlike Europe where you can have your new EU plates done anywhere, over here in Canada, all plates come from the provincial MOT
