rar40941's build thread

Rar, i'd suggest at least getting a friend that has done some of this stuff before...

Also, Turfburn's how to starts with the gear box still in the car...just look for it in the stickied how-to list...

the issue is that there are no 'standard' instructions for diy type of guys; inside the gear box i mean...you can follow the FSM, but it'll be suggesting a SST for nearly every single thing you'll do...which gets you no where...the How-to's will help, but the bigger problem is that you're not going to be fully aware of what actually broke...there could be pins or detents that were destroyed with whatever did break, but you may not even realize it...and putting things back together may result in the same thing as soon as you start driving...

good luck man...hopefully its a simple fix.

Ok guys I am doing all the extra Stuff because I have my tranny out anyway todo the clutch. I do need to inspect my tranny and see if anything broke while It broke. I hope nothing broke when I was in gear. I really hope nothing happend :-/

Plus getting everything back together can be a pita, we fought a Honda trans for a few hours because a bearing wasn't all the way seated making the shaft stick up. From what I can tell the g series is a little more complex but can't be but so much more different. Either way you're gona want someone with experience doing this, and not someone who has watched a video on you tube and thinks they know

When you get it apart take and post pictures of everything before you put it back together so we can see if something is broke that you missed. That way all the new stuff you just got isn't destroyed by something small

That's a good idea I will do that with every little step I do. Also will be good pics to post. And ya I have a friend with good experience he is a Mechanic and has don it before. I just need to make sure and see all the parts and make sure nothing broke

I got my clutch today

Wht happend to me is the clutch went out the pressure plate broke and the fly wheel and the pressure plate aren't making enough contact to do anything.

90% sure that's just about impossible with an oem clutch, I don't see how toucans at the pressure plate broke if its not even apart yet...

No big deal if the parts you bought aren't what is actually bad. If there is some internal damage you can pick up a junkyard trans and install the new parts you bought, done deal. Or just return them.

I don't mean to bash but you didn't really need the LSD if you're sticking with the N/A FS and 100whp. I'd return that bad boy and recoup some cash.

Best of luck though and hopefully it isn't anything major. If it is, worse case scenario do what Larry said and swap out your trans with a used one. That's the beautiful thing about our Protege's, parts are cheap as hell.

I know what I mean but I want to boost my motor soon so I just want to get perpared for that u know that's y I got an LSD
