rar40941's build thread

Okee dokee, I just remember seeing "Exedy" stamped on the OEM clutches when I pulled them. :)

Ya I am sure it's my clutch my pressure plate shattered cause I put it in gear and I let up the clutch and it didnt go anywhere. It just made a grinding noise.

I am just going to get my clutch from speed element cause then it will have a warranty

Doubt it

yeah i think the pressure plate had Exedy stamped, and the clutch disc/blade had Daikin...it was recently that Daikin started using Exedy as a performance brand, so maybe thats the reason...even though Exedy has been around a long time...I just got a Exedy stage 1, and right on the box it has 'Daikin super performance line'...or something blatantly Japanese like that haha...i just knew Daikin is the huge clutch supplier over there, and recently started shifting brands into more understandable marketing sections...

Just wanted to point out that nearly any Japanese made clutch for nearly any Japanese car is actually Daikin, thats all...And that they have had a long habit of branding differently, even though its really all one company...

sorry for the off topic...

If it grinds when you let off the clutch when its in gear you broke your trans. The pressure plate is metal your not going to break it. The clutch disk however I have broken the pads on it but it just slipped and chattered alot.

Does it do that in every gear? Once its in gear it's it it won't grind unless the gear is not there, if it finds while shifting it is not releasing properly which is usually a fluid issue due to not having enough pressure, sometimes it will not go into gear at all. When it slips is when the clutch is bad

Ya there is a grinding noise in evey gear like I left up the clutch and rev it and it make a grinding noise

Ok guys I ordered all the parts from Jdm Sam. I go a LSD,5th gear, stage1 clutch, flywheel, stainless steal clutch line, the instal kit to the LSD, the sealer for the transmission and the fluid.

I plan on doing all te work my self with a couple of friends. I found this how to thread to do the LSD.

Have Kommon Sense? What's that acronym for?

I just hope you didn't break a shift fork and bought all the sweet parts but the shifter fork. Best of luck, mate.

I'm on my 3rd tranny, the part that keeps breaking for me is the shift fork for 1st/3rd. I had the whole tranny replaced the first time (didn't know anything about anything) this second time (last month) I got a parts transmission and replaced the broken part, rebuilt the tranny, and was good to go. This is a common problem with the protege transmission. Both times my tranny went out, it was 3rd gear. First time, the shift fork got stuck in 3rd and my shifter did nothing. regardless of what gear I put it in I was in 3rd. This last time it got stuck in 3rd and I couldn't shift out. I found a MP3 for sale a long time ago that had no 3rd gear. U assume it broke, but he was able to shift to the rest of the gears.

Rar, i'd suggest at least getting a friend that has done some of this stuff before...

Also, Turfburn's how to starts with the gear box still in the car...just look for it in the stickied how-to list...

the issue is that there are no 'standard' instructions for diy type of guys; inside the gear box i mean...you can follow the FSM, but it'll be suggesting a SST for nearly every single thing you'll do...which gets you no where...the How-to's will help, but the bigger problem is that you're not going to be fully aware of what actually broke...there could be pins or detents that were destroyed with whatever did break, but you may not even realize it...and putting things back together may result in the same thing as soon as you start driving...

good luck man...hopefully its a simple fix.

Plus getting everything back together can be a pita, we fought a Honda trans for a few hours because a bearing wasn't all the way seated making the shaft stick up. From what I can tell the g series is a little more complex but can't be but so much more different. Either way you're gona want someone with experience doing this, and not someone who has watched a video on you tube and thinks they know

When you get it apart take and post pictures of everything before you put it back together so we can see if something is broke that you missed. That way all the new stuff you just got isn't destroyed by something small

Ya me to I asked my shop teacher if he could help if I couldn't do it so I am not worried lol it I can't do it. I asked a shop to do the LSD and the 5th gear and they said 1,000 dollars I was like ya right.

Wht happend to me is the clutch went out the pressure plate broke and the fly wheel and the pressure plate aren't making enough contact to do anything.
