Random Protege Thread v2.0

You Guys know where to get the right gasket for the axleback, I'm putting an msp axleback on my lx and no one seems to carry the right one, also have any of you guys done this at home or did you just take to a muffler shop, the reason I ask is cause my bolts are welded to the mid pipe, wasn't sure if that went for everyone. Thanks for Any help

Time to bring this back from the dead. As for the gasket have you tried the dealer i would assume they would have it if you havent found one already.

All my exhaust work i just took to a shop because it always required welding which i cant to do, but now that I have a full CS exhaust so no shop needed for this one.

Do I need to reset my ECU when I install my SRI? Or is there anything I should do or watch out for when removing the old one and installing the SRI?

just disconnect the battery while you perform the installation. then reconnect when done, and all should be fine.

Wow I totally forgot about this thread so whats been going on with your pro's i sold my struts and am going to be using oem struts with msp springs till i can buy some coils, I shoudl be making some progress on it after the new year and get it back on the road again.

my back left strut mount pops when i turn a corner too hard...maybe it's just my sway bar, but that usually makes a different clunking noise.
when i did the full mz6 brake swap, we put one of the pads on backwards. Now that it's fixed i can see a rusty pad every time i walk up to my car. Good for the lolz. Also, since i got the cheapest pads i could find, they're all squeaky.
Bought a new J-pipe like 3 months ago, still haven't put it on.
When parked at stop lights in drive my car makes noises like somethings banging on something (goes away when put into neutral) accompanied with some mild vibrating. I blame the transmission, but i still get some more mild vibrating when it's in neutral which i assume is totally normal.
The rims i want are in Philadelphia -_-

I've been trying to figure out what to do to my ES performance wise that's cheap. I have pulstar plugs and a CAI so far. I have a cat-back exhaust ready to be put on but I gotta get the money together first. Having a I4 is a new experience for me coming from an 86 Pontiac Fiero that had a V6 and was RWD. Any advice for a new Protege owner?

Well first off welcome to the Mazda world its a fun place to be, theres a lot of good info and good people to network with and learn from on this forum so only advice I have about the Forum is attemt to use the search feature and google first before posting. Some people have an issue with that for some reason, and will let you know. But for the most part its a good place to be I love this forum got about 85% of my parts from here ive been a member since 08 and im not going anywhere anytime soon.

Now define cheap? As far as that goes ebay will have you covered in the cheap department. But im sure you are talking about stuff that wont break the bank. Theres headers, lowering springs, strut bars, sway bars, and the list goes on. Just really depends on your budget and end goal. First question is what do you want to get from your car what are your plans/goals for it. AutoX, Drag, cruise, daily, demalition durby...lol then we can go from there in what parts you should consider. But even though we have different motors we still have the same parts I have a list of all my parts for my build in my build thread or my garage page thatll give you an idea on parts you can get. You will have a more options than me in the engine mod area due to the 2.0 having more support than the 1.6 did

For the most part I'm looking to do AutoX and cruising/daily driving. But since I'm only 19 and have a crappy job, my budget is fairly tight. One day I hope to have a pretty serious Protege, but for right now I'd be content with being able to beat most of the little riceburners in my town.

well then used is gonna be your best frien you can get a deal on alot of stuff on here and other forums. Im a member of like 5-7 different mazda specific forums and 2 that arent and most of my parts are used with an exception of a few that i didnt want to buy used i wanted new. But to start off you already have the intake and exhaust so headers is your next step anything else will cost more $$$ so id focus on suspension our cars will never be fast cars like STI's and Evo's they have a huge support of performance parts that we didnt get. So suspension is a big overlooked thing everyone wants to go fast but if it cant be handled then whats the point plus itll help in autox. You can go forged later on and boost it. Hell you can probably source together a msp turbo set up and run that for a while that will be your best bet in the mean time. But honestly id buy the turbo parts piece by piece till you have a complete kit that will be better than buying a kit and you can buy at your own pace.

Sweet. I'm excited to share my progress here.. It seems like everyone is enthusiastic about their cars which is something I can relate to. :)

Yeah man we are all Mazda entusiast here majority of us are here to help you mar come across a few that are just haters and have nothing better to do than trash other people cars because its not boosted like theirs. But the rest of us are just like you building o a budget looking for help and ideas and well we help when we can. Start a build thread but the only unwritten law on here is "Pics or it never happened"...haha we like pics and lots of them just not of the same thing over and over well you get my drift..good luck in your venture and enjoy your stay here on the best forum ever 247 FTW!!!
