me and a friend of mine were discussing ram air. well as it turns out i decide to try it with my Pro5. so i went to the local Home Depot to buy some 3"x8' dryer ducting. but before i did this i wanted to make sure i could do it without looking ghetto. as it turns out there is an opening that scoops air through the plastic bottom covering. so i took this ducting and fastened it to the box and some metal ducting and ran it through the "scoop". it is a little hard to explain. i will post pictures. needless to say the stock filter is a little restrictive so i ran it with the filter off to simulate what the K&N filter would do and it sounds just like the injen CAI. and just to clarify i dont run my car everyday with the filter off, i only did it that one time! so just to let you people know if you are waiting for your CAI this works just as well. i still have yet to pit my pro5 against my buddy's!

Hmm, first off, it's always good to hear folks trying to improve their vehicles with new ideas... I have seen a setup like the one you described on a Ford Probe GT and worked pretty well. One thing you might want to do is put some panty hose over the end of the tube that leads downward, that will help to "pre filter" some of the crap out before it gets to the air box. As far as running without the air filter, ehhhhh, at least you know not to do it often. I am wondering if the stock ECU settings would notice that the engine is getting more air when you are moving, from the "ram air" setup you described... At any rate, I modified my airbox to some degree as seen in this post.

I added a piece of abs plastic on the splash guard that is angled up about 45 degrees toward the bottom of the factory airbox to help channel more air into the engine bay. I will be using a temp. probe this week sometime to see if it actually helps. I also ordered an amsoil air filter that should be in this week sometime too. Anyways, good luck with your experimenting and be careful!

it is a good idea to put some sort of guard near the scoop. i saw your post. i find it intriging. i also thought about the idea of using some sort of another scoop large enough to blow air into the engine compartment to cool off the block. the only problem is that the headers are in the front and so does increase the heat or air that moves forward to back. i have taken temperature readings from just normal driving (about 3mi) and the headers were between 300 and 350 degrees F. and the block i tested at 250 to about 300 degrees F. i really want to have a hood with some scoops to bring in more air, but none are out yet. damn. email me please socom45_@hotmail.com

HOOD SCOOPS FOR MP5

to the above statement ..there is a full Ram Air kit for the MP5 it is made from www.dgmotorsports.com it comes complete with the Carbonfiber hood withthe built in air induction also include the AEM air intake system that is a direct shot from out side air to the manifold basically although it is very expensive but we do have it

thanks for giving me that website for the hood scoop. i found that its quite expensive! do you know of any other type of hood scoops that are aggressive looking? (kind of like the hoods for the cavalier and firebird) those kind of scoops as well.

hood scoop

well at this time I have not been able to find any other hoods stuff except the wings west kit for the MP3 (which cna still be usd) it is two scoop/vent/inductions that sit on the top on the hood near the windshield and they have on on each side but it is totaly non fuctional but i am still torn if it loks good but on www.wingswest.com it shows the car on the front page so take a look
