I'd rather have contoured flaps too, but there are no other flaps for the Mazdaspeed3, so your options are limited...

on the site and other places people say to go with the UR's when dealing with real winters. Are the basics really that susceptible to the cold? I guess what I am saying is I am in New England and am too cheap to buy the UR's but dont want to have to keep buying the basics because of breaking.

You might have to research the WRX boards. I would think the basics should be that susceptible. Looks like rocks might ding them up a bit, the side facing the tire is glossy smooth.

thanks for the quick response, i caved and bought the URs just so i dont have to deal with them. My buddy has a set of the URs on his wrx and loves them. It wasnt a problem buying the UR's until the basics came out! haha I'll post up some pictures when i get them in. (on cosmic blue)

dont mind the 6 in the avatar, i havent changed it since i bought the ms3.

How are the UR's treating you? Planning on buying a set when I order my winter wheels/tires combo. It rained hard this weekend, and with the leaves and pine needles all over the ground they sprayed all over my car, wish I had those flaps already...

I thought that it was $119.00 per pair, but have since learned that it is $119.00 for all 4.

I think this will be my first "mod". I will probably have the dealer throw them on for me next weekend. I am bringing the car in to have some extra padding put around the windshield since it rattles while I drive. If its not super expensive, I would rather have the deler do it that drill into my new car myself.

The question is, what color to get. I have a a True Red GT.
Red would match the car
White looks good with red
Silver would match the rims
Blue matches the back lights on the dash...

If it was me I'd get the Red or the Silver, mud flaps aren't really something that you need to show off a whole lot anyway. They're more for protection than appearance.

And if it was me I'd get the basics for $50. Black on black. :D

you're in worcestor... I'm torn b/w the $50 black or red. I'm def ordering not dealing with another hell of a winter again w/out them thats for sure.

let me know what the dealer asks to install them if its cheap enough I'd do the same.

The reason for wanting the better ones is I have heard they are more durrable. Winter in worcester Ma can be pretty harsh on cars with all the rode salt and s***. The roads here are none too smooth and plows tend to tear up the streets, leaving rather large hunks of asphalt in some places. Plus every, and i do mean every, parking lot and side street is a good chance to bottom out in this crap town where civil engineering and basic road maintainence seem to be a mystery.

On top of that my first MS3 had quite a few chips in the paint by the 5k mark. I take 4 highways to work each day, and ALL of them have been under construction at some point in the past 6 months. The dumb-ass contractors left large sections of torn up highway for weeks at a time while they litterally did nothing. (argh)

I want something more durrable. The color is just an added bonus.

The UR flaps are definitely much more durable... You can literally fold them over and stand on them and they will adjust back to their original shape within seconds. They will hold up to very harsh weather conditions, and still keep an awesome look and finish.
