im sure its already been brought up, so ill just testify to its greatness. valentine one has saved me and my dads ass plenty of times. he has it hardwired into his sti and it has been great. soon well pick up another one brand new and ill get his old one for my car. now well have triple protection on drives to autox along w/my brothers bell(peep) (seems to work great also but sounds like friggin r2d2 when it turns on)

using V1 in the Communistwealth.... brave men

haha yea they havent caught us yet! we make sure to pop it off when theres a cop behind us or pacing w/us on the highway.

rx65 or 8500 x50? i read the rx85 has voice prompts which the x50 doesnt...i am stuck between these two i think. :\ any help?

rx65 is the same thing just doesnt have all the diffrent options. the rx65 is the old muslce car with all the power you need and the X50 is the MSP with all the bells and whistles and it has a nav system. Haha if you got that.

I guess I should add this even if you do get a radar.

1. Dont speed over hills and if you do watch the cars in front of you. If they are all braking at a certain point chances are there is either a cop or another good reason they are all trying to slow down at the same time.

2. See above for going around tight curves

3. As soon as you go under an overpass look up on the entrance ramp to see if there is a cop using radar way up there. If you catch it fast you may be able to slow down quick enough.

4. Take a good look under overpasses before you get to them. On a sunny day it can be a b**** to see a cop sitting in the shade under an overpass until it is too late

5. This doesnt pertain to my area, but I have seen cops in other areas sit on top of an overpass looking down at oncoming traffic. When they catch someone the get on the highway and catch up.

6. MOST IMPORTANT is know your area and where the cops sit. On my commutes there are only about 10 places I have ever seen cops sitting and I know them all so I make sure to look well ahead or slow down for that small stretch untul I can be certain there is no cop there

Think ahead while you are driving and know your surroundings and chances are very very good that you won't get caught with or without a radar:)

Good points (thumb)

I would add glancing in the rearview mirror frequently, I had one pacing me from 1/4 mile back for a few miles tonight. My radar detector was going on and off frequently when I went around a turn as the cop fell out of view and then came back. Figures it would be in Sykesville (you MD people know what I mean.)

Sometimes they drive with the radar on, and try to blend in with traffic. Pretty soon someone without a radar detector will fly by. I've been behind a cop in traffic and watched them do it once.

Yeah, NoRotor's right, even though you have a radar detector, you have to be smart with it to ensure not getting tickets. I've had cops who will "instant on" for a second to check if you're speeding then "instant on" again after you've passed him or after you think the threat is gone. Always check after you pass underpasses and such.

i'm stuck between the passport 8500 x50 and the Beltronics rx65. :\ Radar Roy from radarbusters.com chose the rx65 as the best radar even over the V1, so I am leaning toward that. They are about the same price and the rx65 has voice prompts i believe is what radar roy said, and the x50 doesnt. So can anyone give me a little help?

Beltronics and Escort are one in the same now (a merged company) so I do believe the sensors/internals are quite similar between the x50 and the rx Beltronics models.

Radarbusters.com has good info, but seriously if you are just "smart" about speeding, you don't need anything that good.. and one that good won't do anything against laser... laser detection is basically a beep to let you know you're going to be pulled over if you are speeding :P that's all it's good for. I love my Beltronics Vector 985 but if it broke or something and I needed a new detector, I'd probably get one in the 150-250 price range (from Beltronics/Escort) since in tests they still perform quite well.

i was also lookin at the vector 995...for 215 shipped, but i read that the 980 is better (i guess they meant the 985). Not sure exactly what, but hopefully i'll be gettin one here soon. :\

I was looking to buy the beltronics rx65 but I stumbled on some reviews for it and almost all of them mentioned how the radar detector stopped working after some time. I went with the passport 8500 and I couldn't be happier, it usually warns me way ahead of time even when cops are around the corner or on the other side of a hill.

yea i've gotten those review on the rx65 as well as the vector 995. most of the say it give a reading of "service required" and other things of that nature. so i was beginning to look more at the escorts. did you get the x50 or just 8500?
