I was looking to buy the beltronics rx65 but I stumbled on some reviews for it and almost all of them mentioned how the radar detector stopped working after some time. I went with the passport 8500 and I couldn't be happier, it usually warns me way ahead of time even when cops are around the corner or on the other side of a hill.

It's funny because they have the same internals.. and are the same company.

parts sharing ftw I don't know why people say they are having issues with one and not the other.

i got a couple saying they had issues with the x50 but maybe like 1/10th the problems w/ the x50 as the rx65. :-\ i want to get an escort or bel but there are places cheaper than the company's site, like electronica direct.... i dont know if they are an authorized dealer or not...it says the product maintains the manufacturer's warranty...but can you really trust that in the description? i called escort and they were like, buy it through us and you will get the warranty. so i asked again if they had a list of authorized dealers so i could still get the warranty, and they just said, if you buy through us you will get the warranty.... so does anyone have a clue if they are authorized or not?

Yeah it's weird.. they pretty much don't have to honor your warranty if you buy it through anyone but them. I'm sure crutchfield.com is an authorized reseller, dunno if they are any cheaper though.

yea their warranty states it has to be bought through an "authorized seller." crutchfield is more expensive, but free shipping so it mite be about the same. but i'm not gonna pay that much for a detector.... we'll see. i emailed them to ask if they were an authorized seller, so we'll see what they say.

read carefully the warranty coverage on the website of the vendor. if it says ANYTHING OTHER THAN 'warranty provided through manufacturer', then they're NOT an authorized vendor.

and typically for a RX65 an UNauthorized vendor sells them for ~$260

yea i've gotten those review on the rx65 as well as the vector 995. most of the say it give a reading of "service required" and other things of that nature. so i was beginning to look more at the escorts. did you get the x50 or just 8500?

Yes, it's the x50 I bought it from best buy.

On a side note. Does anyone know the difference between the Escort 8500 X50 and just the regular Escort 8500?? What extra bells and whistles does the X50 have??

extra range is one thing but i'm not sure what else. i cant even find the 8500 anywhere. i can only find the x50 now :-\

I don't believe anything is different. From what I was told the released the X50 with the red and blue color options.

If you are looking at buying used then I would be careful. I don't think that they have made the regular 8500 since 2002. I could be wrong though...

No extra range WSE, Only has pop and one other function, Same range alerts and such.

according to their site, escort claims it has 50% more range than the original 8500. if you are not buying it from an authorized dealer it has no warranty. not sure if ur getting it used or new, but just a heads up
