DO NOT DRIVE THE STOCK MSP TIRES IN THE SNOW - PERIOD!
Semperit Snowsports $72 each shipped from tires.com (Discount Tire) on P5 rims. Girth's a copycat! OK, truth be told,. we PM'd about the decision together...

Ha ha, yes I did copy (except for the P5 rims...nobody wanted to sell them to me). Ping pointed me in the direction of the Semperits and my mind was made up. They're cheap too if you get them in the 205-55/16 size. Plus they're T speed rating if I remember correctly, which is kind of nice. I haven't driven them in snow but the tread pattern looks good and the price was right. Hopefully they'll work great.:)

When I bought my car I made sure that part of my sales contract was a brand new set of All Season tires...Faulken 512's. I think....my boyfriend actually did it all. What kind of things could possibly go wrong if you have the summer tires on there? I know they absolutely suck in the rain too!!

I am going to try and find some cheap steelies this weekend. I am going to a couple of salvage yards around here. My dealership said they didn't have any sitting around. I think i am going to go with the Blizzaks. I drive an hour to work down some bad bad roads. Anybody know what the lug spacing is on the MSP?

If you live in a place where the roads are more icy than snowy, get Blizzaks. They are fantastic on ice. They are also like driving on marshmallows. First time you take a corner, you WILL be terrified.

If you live in a place where there is snow on the roads, you want something with a more open tread. Nokian Hakka 1s are about the best snow tire you can get. And they handle pretty well on dry/wet also. Gislaved also makes an excellent snow tire. Neither are cheap, but they are worth it.

Hey BlkZoomZoom-

I'd be interested in some steelies- any idea on price? (I'd drive to pick them up. Its a fun drive to Albany.)

BTW- the time to put snows on in New England is... now! Saw snow yesterday morning.

Gbourdon: The wheels are 114.3x5 on the lugs, with a 67.1mm centerbore, which can make it a b**** to find wheels. Hehee. $40 a peice at most any auto place. The wheels off an early ninetys 929 fit, as well.

well, I wish I could say it was time for the snow tires to come out, but today is a high of 87 and a low of around 75. It really sux.

:p It was 28 degrees for my morning run today..
:p I got hit in the forehead with a big wet SNOWFLAKE on my road ride yesterday
:p I froZe my A$$ off coaching my son's soccer game last night

Conclusion: Athletics makes one freeze. Avoid it, stay inside, and do something else!

and...

DO NOT DRIVE ON THE STOCK BRIDGESTONES IN THE SNOW!

when got my MSP in february, there was all kinds of snow

it sucks so bad

imagine sitting on a perfectly flat parking lot, with your freinds laughing at you, cause your tires just spin

get dem tires

Got some cheapo snow tires yesterday. I decided to just get some knockoff brand that VIP carries. The guy says they are a copy of a Goodyear snow tire. Whetever. They are studable and the tread is pretty agressive. Paid 450 bucks for 15" steelies, tires, hubcaps, lugnuts, mounted, balanced, road hazard warranty, and put on the car. At least I'm not still going to try driving my re040's in the snow any more

If you live in the Ottawa area check out Performance Mazda they have hakka 1's and steels for $699 (CDN) mounted etc.

If you want ultimate snow performance remember to go as skinny as you can... wide tires just don't dig in. The ones I got are 185/65/15.

If you are looking at blizzak's keep in mind that the good tread pattern and rubber only goes to 1/2 the tread depth so they become useless long before they are technically worn out.
