Racing Beat springs from an mp3 on a p5

Has anyone here done this?

I searched but couldn't find anything, I was wondering how much of a drop springs from a mp3 will give me. I drive a protege5. If you have any pics, that'd be great too! :D

Anybody have any input? let me know, thanks! :)

Someone here has done it. He has the mp3 wheels and springs. Sorry, I can't think of his name. I can say that it looks good.

Oh yeah, the Blues in 6.;)

I was thinking about doing the same thing, but the r/b springs will only drop you about .8 inch. For all the time and effort to install them, I wanted a bit more drop.

Esteban: Canuckleheads in 5, you heard it here first :o :D

natey, I actually don't mind the small drop, I'm looking for the smallest drop possible since my back alley is unpaved. It get's pretty rough going in and out everday, and there is also a big bump I have to get over to get into my garage. I just want a more agressive look with a little performance that won't make going in and out of my alley more of a pain than it already is...

I just keep hearing discrepancies about how much they actually lower since the mp3 ones are different from ones directly from racing beat. I wanted to see if anyone here has done this personally. :)

if you check the Racing Beat webpage, they say it will lower the MP3, or P5 to about 3/4 of an in. remember, that the racing beat ones arent purely cosmetic, they have the correct spring rate for improved handling and stiffness.

if you want cosmetic go with the eibach, or coilovers.

I just put a set of mp3 springs on my 01 LX sedan ,they dropped the front 1" and the rear 1 1/2 ". The car now looks level ,ride great and handles like its on rails . This is well worth the money ,try and get a used set if you make the change its cheaper .

I hear that they actually lower a little more than an inch, read it somewhere here on the board, I'm wondering how much the ones off an mp3 will drop a p5 though. :) thanks!

macklum, do you have any pics?

I also really wanted those springs. I was on the verge of buying some when I asked one of the ARD guys about them. Here's his response:

My opinion is that you should not get those Racing Beat Springs.

I know money is an issue...but it would be better for you to go with a set of H&R's or Tein's. The Tein's are a bit cheaper than the H&R's and give you a better drop. The H&R's are in my opinion the best spring option for the P5. I personally have the Tein's on my car...and am very pleased at the ride quality/performance of them.

The Racing Beats will drop your car about 1 inch. You WILL still have a large wheel gap.

If you were just changing springs, then your ride quality would be only affected a little...so comfortable, but stable and less body roll.

Since you want to upgrade to the Tokico Blues and springs...you will have a stiff ride...it will have even less body roll in the turns (this is a good thing) and you will feel the road. It will NOT be uncomfortable however. The Tokico blue is an entry level performance strut...

Ive got em on an ES. They do give more of a drop than listed on RB's site. Id say right at an inch all the way around....looks very nice, not too low, not too high, in my opnion. It's really not all that noticable unless i pull up next to another ES or LX then you can tell a big difference. Heres a pic to clarifiy the drop....

Hey Eclipse_21, I have the MP3 springs on my car (as far as I know anyway). Here are some pics. The car is lower than stock but there is still some wheel gap.

Let me know if you have any questions. You can also check out my pictures on yahoo or the ones I have here.

thanks for the pics 20ESGUY and crazy D :D

do any of you by any chance happen to have pics of your car beside a stock one? that would be awesome :)

The MP3 springs are different than the springs on Racing Beats website. The springs on the MP3 are but .2 inches lower than the stock springs of the P5. The Racing Beat springs are about an inch. Trust me, the MP3 has wheel gap that looks just like crazy_d's. Nothing my SPOOL springs won't take care of when I get around to installing them (2" all around) :D...

only .2 inches lower than stock height? :( are you sure? link for proof? :D i want to read up on that!

damn, I wouldn't have minded a half inch - 1 inch drop, but .2 doesn't even seem like it's worth it =\

Unless the design changed drastically, I don't think this is correct. I just ordered the MazdaSpeed springs from my local dealer ($180, not a bad price.) They clearly state in the price listing .75" drop all the way around. I'd asume the MP3 springs are at leat close to this figure. Someone who knows for sure correct me if I'm wrong...

the RB springs off the mp3 and RB/MSP springs f/s at the dealer are not identical?

I'm lost!

We have 3 different options here:

1. RB springs direct from RacingBeat
2. MP3 springs from the dealer
3. MazdaSpeed springs from the dealer

All in all, I'd assume they're all fairly close in drop on a P5.

Racing Beat (direct from RB) lists at .75 F .875 R

MazdaSpeed (dealer order) lists at .75 F .75 R

MP3 (dealer order) I don't have info on but probably similar. Someone stated they have these on a sedan, and settled in right around 1" F & R.

HTH - Jim
