Raced a GSR last night.

I have about 650 miles on the car and I decided to race my friends GSR. His car has Intake Headers Exhaust and Cam's. One time of putting it to redline won't hurt. =) It was pretty cold outside about 65 degrees. Anyways were at the stop sign and I rev up to about 3,000 rpm when I launched. I felt the limited slip gripping and im gone. I'm probably ahead of him by 1 1/2 cars. In the middle of 2nd gear I hear him just shifting to his second and getting closer. I'm still ahead of him by like 1 car and I shift to 3rd and hes about 1/2 car. While we were going 90 - 95 he passes me. WTF:confused: Does his car have that much more power to pass ,me that easily? Also Once I get more miles on the car will it have a little more power?
 
Well I'm sure he has a decent amount of power over you in terms of actuall horse power, you have have an advantage of torque though. As far as why he caught you at about 90-95 and why it took so long is because honda/acura's are all top end cars, they don't make any power till about 6-7k rpm's. I use to have an LS integra and most races I won but didn't actually catch or pass anyone till about 80-90mph, again because the car is all top end there's no torque. Turn up the boost a little and you'll be takin him without a problem. I raced a turbo'd civic a few nights ago and he wasn't even close to keeping up to me, along with a jetta 1.8t took him without a problem. BOOST IS GOOD!!
 
Same to me. I was ahead of 2001 prelude until middle of 2nd gear
but he passed me easily as soon as I changed the gear to 3rd.
 
I got took by a "Stock LS" which turned out to be a LS with a B18C/B20 motor in it and worked the hell out of...props to him for the primer'd up sleeper..he had me by at least 4 car lengths

Now that's a Car that would be in the Low to Mid 14's. all you gotta do is swap a good B18C or B20 motor in any civic/integra/ or hatch and your in the low to mid 14's.
 
yea it was a B18C head on a B20 base...switched in a GSR hydro tranny and type R clutch/flywheel and brakes..car was real quick..
 
I feel you pain mayn. I knoe my car is slow, and all but I was able to get a good launch on my friend's GSR. He had LSD, Cams, Intake, and header. I drive a stock MP3. Lets just say I only got a 1 car length lead then by 2nd, it was game over. :-( However, i was able to take my friends B16 CRX :-D!!! pulled away on 4th. Close race, beat him by half a car length. I was supprised! Now he wants to have a rematch with his TURBO B16. I'm goin to lose. BTW, have you ever had some old ricer accords or civics pull next to you thinking he was hot s*** and then smoked him/her? Its great seeing their faces when you slow down to give them the hazzards.
 
Yeah Mazdaspeedzoom is right. becasue of the VTEC. all the VTEC car has no torque... actually it is suck...... VTEC car won't take people... even add one more including a driver... the car will be much much different with only a driver there..... but anyway... I don't know why people love Honda so much....

i have had that twice...the lates was this past week ...... it is great
 
Its cool how the vtec kicks in like at high rpms. my buddy has 200sxser and has cams in the car and man when the car hits 4k it just jumps and it gets fast and scary it feels like a vtec in his car.
 
I have a 03 Sentra SE-R with the 2.5 that has CVTC which is a lot like VTEC and you will notice it when it kicks in. The SE-R has alot of lowend pull too. With 165hp and 175lb-ft of torque.

Now will the Mazda3 with the 2.3l from the Mazda6 have something similar to VTEC?

well don't get me wrong, i have a lot of respect for the honda cars. my honest opinion, who cares about the straight away. i knoe my car suxs at that. what I love doing the most is catching up on cars that would kill me on the local winding roads. the one thing i love about most honda cars is that vtec motor sound. the only car i'm really afraid of that is an equal match to me is an integra LS with a vtec head.... everytime i tried to follow, it leaves me in the corners.
 
my thing is..i drive highway..all day..everyday..speeds in the 90-130 range consistantly..my protege is the wrong car for such driving..autocrossing is great..i do it all the time..but for me...medium traffic at night on I-84/I-95/Taconic Expway/FDR/WS Highway at high speeds..nothing better than it.. I just love it..I need to find a good everyday driver thats good on insurance and gas that accomplishes said feat...hmm..Mazda6 sounds better and better..
 
haha i agree with you spicy, i love my mp3. 28-30 mpg :-D! anyways, well its time to go to mazda to get my first 3000 check up. I bought the car used with 7 k miles.

My friend's specV with I/E lost to a 97 Integra with a B20(stock)-engine Swap, by like 1 1/2car lenghs. Those freakin Honda VTEC motor's are strong, and it also sounds sweet 2"when the Variable timing-lift-electronic-control kicks in. That's the only thing that save's the Honda's butt through there powerband. Any b16A/b18C or B20 motor in a Civic hatch or Integra will keep up or beat a Turbo MP3 and MSP, unless if you crank up the boost on the MP3/MSP then that's where the table turns.
