Questions about CAI....

Hi, guys. I installed my Ebay CAI for almost 2 weeks. I love the sound, and the car goes smoother. But I have some problems with it... (My english is bad, I hope you guys can understand my reading...=______=")

1. The first time to start the car everyday, nothing really happened. But when I start it second time, third time and so on, the CAI shakes like crazy and it hits some metal on the front(I just checked it out last night, it scratched the paint of the metal). How can I solve this problem???

2. Today I picked my gf to work, and the car was not smooth as the first day that I just installed it.(yesterday I had the same problem on the way to school...) The car was like lossing power... When my P5 went on a slope(about 45 degree high), it was slipping... and it moved to the right hand side...
I parked it on the street one night. Is that possible that the fog damaged the filter, so the air couldn't really go it???

3. I'm still using the filter which came with the CAI. I want to change a better one. Do you guys know where I can get the cheapest price for the K&N filter??? and what size do I have to get???

Thanks a lot. (wink)

1) You're probably hitting the brake master cylinder. This problem is usally worse with Ebay intakes, but I've found that it also can happen with the AEM. As far as fixing it, get creative. Make sure everything is really tight, and futz with the fitment. I also used zip-ties to anchor mine. Be sure to do a search for "brake master cylinder" and see what comes up.

2) Did you reset the ECU? After installing the intake, the computer needs to re-learn the fuel curve. Disconect your negative battery terminal, and then step on the brake for about five seconds. This will drain all charge from the system. Check to see by trying to start you car; if nothing happens, you're fine. Reconnect the battery, start the car, and let it idle for a couple on minutes. (I usually go five). This will let the car relearn the fuel map. Then take it out for a drive, and see if anything has changed.

3. You'll want to change to a K&N if you're using an Ebay filter. Go here for the number, and remember to check the fittment BEFORE you buy it:

Hope this helps :D

Edit: if the "piece of metal" you're hitting is at the rear right hand side of the engine bay, and is a metal tube with an s-bend in it, it's the Brake Master Cylinder.

Thx~~ I have two brackets left and don't know where I have to install them... they're like two piece of metal and curved. Where should I install them???

Thx~~ The filter keeps hitting the metal which is above it:

Yea I did. May be I'll just try to disconnet the negative battery terminal again.

oh... I see. I'm pobably going to get one:)

I really don't know much about car, so I started to do some mods for learning it. I hope I'll be fine~~
Thx again~~

I don't know where I have to put those pieces of metal on the left bottom of the pic. I'm so dumb...=______="

Do you have to remove the bumper to install a CAI?
Nope. All you have to do is jack-up the car and remove some of the screws on the inside of the fenderwell to stick the filter on the CAI which is a b****. But removing the bumper is more of a b**** I would'nt recommend it considering that you will have to clean your air-filter and taking off your bumper on and off will become a drag.

no. just take off the splash gaurd under the bumper/ wheelwell and shove it in there.

Actually the noise is from the CAI hitting the hole into which it goes into the fender... and also if u have the old style filter the metal on the filter is hitting that plate in the fender. So u must put weatherstripping/rubber around the hole to keep it from hitting or eventually it will cut the aluminum tube. The filter interference is solved when u switch to a K&N since it is made of a rubber surround and not metal. And i havent had problems with it hitting my brake master cylinder but then of course i made sure the rubber L bend was nice and tight on the TB. ANd finally those metal things are to mount the weird control module(sorry i forgot what it is) that disconnects from the TB/stock air intake system during install. It must be mounted near TB... I have mine ziptied. I love my CAI... one of the best items i have gotten considering the price, sound, look, and gains(yes i definately saw gains) Go Liveonspeed!!

Oh and water cant damage the filter or engine unless it is submerged and becomes hydrolocked. I actually notice a bit more power when it is foggy or wet out. Also supposdly small amounts of water that are in the air can clean carbon deposits on the IM, and valves...or so i have heard.
