i have lowered my protege5 1 weeks ago. my friend told me should get the struts with it , but i didn't. what 's the problem if i just change the springs.....(hope u guys tell me no problem with it....coz i have no money to put them in:p) thanks

well you should have put the springs in yourself...it's not really that hard to do. I did it on my friend's project integra, and since we didnt replace the shock absorbers and struts, his camber was adjusted ALOT. However, its like 2-3 inches lower, plus it handles and looks great. It has always been recommended that you replace the whole suspension system when making a ride height adjustment, but I guess its not really mandatory...its entirely up to the owner.

Good luck,
Chandler

your struts will fail prematurely, thats all. so as long as you plan to replace the struts in i dunno, 10-15k miles (i dont really know the right numbers, do a search) then you are fine.

its true that with the springs on the stock struts that they won't last as long...as they are not PERFECTLY valved for the springs...but how long they will last is dependant on the road conditions on which you drive....if the roads are bad then they won't last nearly as long as somewhere where the roads are really good and smoothe.....some people have experienced strut failure in as little as 10,000 miles and others have 30,000 miles on theirs and STILL have no problems....so since you already installed the springs....just drive and enjoy.
