I'm planning on AutoX'ing my MZ3 next season in the Stock class and am researching my wheel and tire options. Since the Solo rules lump all MZ3s together (i, s, 2.0l, 2.3l, etc.) what kind of flexibility do I have in throwing on a set of 16x6.5 wheels on my 2.3l hatch?
I know that North American 2.3l MZ3s all came "standard" with 17x6.5 wheels, but am hoping to be able to use parts available throughout the model range, excluding MS3 components.
Most importantly there are essentially no DOT race tires in 205/50/17 or 215/45/17 to fit the stock 17" rims. With 16x6.5 rims I have far more options with 205/55/16, or larger 225/50/16 DOT race tires.
