Hey guys I was curious if I'm the only one whose Pro5's foglights are angled so they are pointing down down or is it really like this.Is this normal???

well, my fog lights arent really facing down too much. they are just about right. i dont know, its hard to say w/o seeing them ya know.

Mine is facing down too. I think this is the correct way. Maybe is to not illuminate other cars.

I will like to know if there is other way to put them.

Do you guys SEE them facing down, or are you assuming they do because the light pattern is so low and doesn't project straight out?

I ask because if you look closely at the light, you'll see a "hood" on the top half of the bulb - this keeps the light pattern on the ground, not up in people's eyes.

I've never noticed the fogs being angled down - but I have certainly noticed how they PROJECT down.

Does anyone notice if the fog lights realy work, or are they there just to look cool.

I keep mine on all the time because I have them, I have yet to see how they would help me in a foggy situation though.

Basically - they're useless. They shine light about 6 feet out in front of the car, and that's it.

If you stuff some "heffers" in the back seat and load some crap in the hatch, you can weigh down the rear enough to pop the front end up and then they shine a little further. :);)

I leave mine on all the time, too - and I did the "fog light mod" also so that they can be used with the parking lights only. I do that frequently - for dawn/dusk and daytime rain driving where full headlights aren't really necessary.

But really they just look cool, and don't provide much useful light.

hihoslva, I agree, our fogs are basically useless but look nice, I love the PIAA ion crystals I just bought. I also wanted to wire my foglights so that that come with the parking lights, but I'm not sure how. Maybe you can enlighten me if it's not to hard.

here's a pic of the Ion Crystal bulbs

The "fog mod" is so simple, it's scary. Couple snips, a bit of wire, and you're all set.

Here are some instructions (best I could find) and some pics - the pics will help A LOT:

Pull off the side panel of the drivers dash (between the dash and the door), it's just clips and pulls directly off. You'll access the wiring behind the fog light switch here. Look up under the dash, above where your left foot sits. There's four electronic boxes, the smallest (Black) one is the fogs relay. Feel it click as you turn the fogs on and off from the switch. Find the red wire going into the relay, and cut it. Connect a piece of wire to the red wire going into the relay, and run it up to the fog switch. Insulate the other end (no short circuits here). At the fog switch, tap that new wire into the light green/black wire, and you're done. Now the fogs come on with parking lights and headlights. They'll still shut off with high beams, though.

The plain green wire is the piece used to make the connections in the pics:

Good luck!

how is that any different from just keeping the fog lights switch pressed in at all times?

I found the same thing. Solution: Re-aim them. Remove one nut from the back of the fog light and the assembly comes out the front. They are mounted on a bracket with an adjustable pivot. Don't aim them too high though, or other drivers will get blinded and give you the 'signal'. Note that the 'hood' over the top half of the bulb prevents someone walking by your car from being blinded by direct light from the bulb, but the beam mainly consists of reflected light. So the aiming is still critical.

As stock, the fogs can only be used when the headlights are on. Performing this mod makes it possible to have the fogs on with ONLY the parking lights if you want also.

Check the last pic in my post - stock P5 can't do that.

yeah...from reading all these posts it sounds like you uys just want to turn the fog lights into another set of driving lights...fogs should be aimed low to the ground, that's how they "cut" through the fog...if you truly want to turn them into another set of driving lights you can open up te unit like you're replacing the bulb and there's a little piece of metal that covers the top half of the bulb, remove that piece and you'll have another set of lights...good luck

The fog lights on the P5 is NOT useless. In fact it's very effective. It's supposed to be aimed down and project only a wide, short beam. Shorter than the standard headlights. That is what allows you to see in fog. If you aim the light upwards in fog, all you'll see is the light reflecting back at you.

Foglights should placed as far apart & as low as possible, and project a low and short beam of light. That's exactly what the P5's foglights do.

While I agree with most of your statement about the purpose of foglights, I still feel the P5 lights are useless.

The real deal is to get fogs that project low (like ours) and FAR. The fact that the lights are low to the ground prevents most of the reflections associated with regular headlights - you need them to project outward at least somewhat in order for them to be useful. And true foglights should be yellow - this really cuts down on glare and makes them more useful. Maybe if the P5 fogs were brighter, they'd be better suited for fog driving. But as is, the beam is low enough and wide enough, but not at all long or bright enough to be effective, IMO

The P5 fogs act more like curb lights (generally on the sides of few cars - they light up when a turn signal is on to supposedly illuminate the curb for turns - my old LeBaron had 'em). They don't project anywhere near far enough to be useful as any kind of real driving light.

I have driven in fog, and tested the P5 "foglights" for their usefulness - they don't really do a damn thing other than look cool (which they do very well!). Unless your only object is to light up the road 4 feet in front of the car - which doesn't really help under any conditions.

Just MHO.

Alright, maybe they are not totaly "useless" as I said before, but in my personal experience the fogs haven't helped much. In Jersey we get all kinds of crazy weather year round, including fog.
I guess if your driving extremely slow the area that the fogs illuminate give the driver a chance to react. But at normal speeds, by the you see something on the ground, you're already on top of it. So usually they don't help. - not tryin' to argue, just voicing my opinion. drive safely.

Once again the purpose is to be seen. If you want foglights to go that far ahead, buy another set of headlights and stick them down there. But stop whining about it not being far enough. They're not headlights.
