Question about oil change?

If I was gonna purchase a 2017 Mazda GT leftover (Or any 2017 model car). Being the car has been sitting for probably over a year now, Is the factory oil still good? I know oil change intervals are 6 month, 7500 mile depending on manufacturer, Does that account for new car oil?

I would not let the oil stop me from getting the car if it had everything else that I wanted. Get it changed early if it bothers you.

I was wanting to know if factory oil broke down after sitting for a year. I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker. Just curious.

Look at the BORN ON date on the ID label in the drivers door jamb. It will have the manufacture date here. i.e. June 2017 displayed as "06/17"

I think there is a time interval for the oil change. Maybe see if they’ll just throw in an oil change if you’re worried.

eh...Add one drop of Crisco cooking oil. You'll gain 0.9 HP.

This's an excellent question!

Mazda has Flexible oil change interval been set as the default for 2017 CX-5. First thing I'd check on a potential target of a brand-new 2017 CX-5 is to check Maintenance Monitor and see if oil change schedule has been set to "Flexible". If it does, check the mileage left on oil life. In theory for 2017/2018 CX-5 the oil change warning should come up at the maximum of 7,500 miles or 12 months whichever comes first. If a 2017 CX-5 has been sitting there for 1 year, the oil change warning should be displayed very soon.

But 2017 CX-5 has been only available since April 2017. Chances are very slim to get one sitting for more than 12 months.

Yeah oil is supposed to get changed depending on both mileage AND time. Make sure to use Mazda Moly oil if you plan to change factory oil early for a peace of mind. :)

Thank you, I didn't realize the 2017's came out that late. I would have figured the fall of 2016.
