Wassup fellas, I was wondering what are the effects of cutting or heating up your springs to drop your car?

dangerous ride. changing the spring rates due to heat and whatnot. and its just downright bad. i would highly advise to get a set of lowering springs. do not ever cut your springs. ever ever ever.lol

I knew someone who cut there springs a loooooooong time ago when they didnt make springs for his car. He ended up blowing a tire because the springs cut into his tires.

DONT RUIN YOUR CAR!!! If you cut or heat sag your springs on a mazdaspeed3 I will personally delete all of your posts from that point on.... it would totally be worth the abuse of my mod power (antoine, if you read this...im just kidding, but seriously, wouldnt it be worth it??)

lol nice jbiird

yeah don't do it if you like the way your car handles now by cuttting or heating your springs you will drasticly change your suspension in a bad way not in a good way like a set of lowering springs will do for you... cutting or sagging is for looks (ghetto looks but looks nonetheless) not for spirited driving.

The springs are not just peices of coiled metal that you can just cut. They are engineered to have a certain spring frequency and resistance. When you cut them, you won't know what you changed or if they even work at all.

Just take them out. I roll on the bumpstops. Just get race bumpstops from APC. I got mine in the automotive section of Wal Mart. They were next to the Back Off mudflaps (next paycheck...those are MINE)

Another legendary post from Swampass.

I kid, but had a friend actually do that to his yoo hoo brown escort sedan. I think it was an 86. It was awesome. He painted his rims hot pink so you could see the dopeness through the pseudo chrome wheel covers. He also had a pink flamingo bendtenna and a giant Oakley Thermonuclear protection sticking covering half of his windshield. (if that hints to how long ago this was)

In summation:

Heat sagging or cutting your factory springs is a great way to totally foul up the ride and handling of your car. If you cut them too short and you unload the suspension over a bump, the spring can unseat from the perch and cause your car to turn ubruptly in either direction if you don't have a firm grasp on the wheel.
Pony up and get a set of QUALITY lowering springs. Most of the cost of a lowering spring is material. You buy a $69 set from ebay and it's made from $68 worth of steel. I come from the school of: if you plan to deviate from stock...don't skimp on tires, wheels, or suspension. Those three things are keeping you from hitting s*** like trees, tractor trailers, and other motorists.
You hit me and my wife because you saved $100 on springs, and you'll lose that $100 and then some in dental visits. (lol2)

Nah I know not to do it... was never planning too. Just wanted to know more on how it would effect your car.

lol thanks anyways fellas...ya trip me out.

your car will bounce so much...i see it all the time on lowered civics and s10's and s***...its pretty funny

Not to mention you will literally loose any warranty on your entire suspension. Trust me that will not be just your springs, struts and shocks. That will be ball-joints, tie-rods, sway-bars, all bushings and links etc. etc. A few hundred dollars for correct lowering is well worth it.

springs don't make you bounce (well they do buuuuut) shocks keep you from bouncing. If you bounce, cut springs or not, your shocks are toast.
