Question about Cobb APs

Hey all,

Just curious to see if it's possible to flash the ecu using an AP that isn't "mine"? Meaning, would someone be willing (if it's possible) to "rent" their AP to me for a minute or two to get a stage 1? I don't really want to buy an AP if I don't have to. Don't even know if it's possible, just thought I'd check.

Trying to decide between this and doing a few other mods. It's either this or getting a turbo inlet pipe and a test pipe. (I already have a CAI.)

Thanks!

Daniel

It's not possible. In order to use the AP on a different car you need to "unmarry" it. So if someone flashed a stage 1 on your ecu then they couldnt use it on their car.

Almost no gain with Inlet pipe and small gain with TP. Big gain with AP. You could get a friend to let you try it out. He would have to unmarry it from his car and marry it to your car. He would have to reload his stock map and then save your stock map. Could take an hour. It takes 30 minutes initally to save the stock map. He then would have to reverse everything when done, another hour.

You can find used AP's for $500 on the forum sale boards. It would be best to get the AP before modding too much so you can monitor whats going on with your engine. This way when you get new mods you can load new maps or create new maps yourself with the tunning software.

I would do the test pipe and any other parts you want before the cobb tuner. The off the shelf tunes are nice but a custom tune is just that much better. I see you live in the Ville and Automotions is an awsome place to get a custom tune.

I've driven by that place a million times but know nothing about them. Don't they have to have the Cobb Pro-Tuner software to work on our ECU, or am I mistaken?

Well, I decided to definitely do the TP and possibly a Forge BPV. Still undecided about replacing my DIY CAI (Sceptre) with a SRI and turbo inlet from Protege Garage. I figured I'd get ~15 hp with the TI and TP from others' reports and previous experience with turbo engines (the Mitsu in my avatar and a couple others). Any idea about power loss going from a CAI to a SRI? Also, what about making a small air "funnel" using some type of hose like dryer hose that can take outside air and focus it right at the intake? Just thinkin' here...

This is all I plan on doing to this car right now. Maybe 10 years down the road if it's still in my garage, I'll do some more heavy modding to it. Who knows?
