Q: How do you keep display w/aftermarket HU

So I just got an MS3 and am lovin everything... except the system. My old car (MSP) has a pretty badass setup so it's unfair to compare. So this will most likely be my first mod.

Question is... has anyone figured out a way to install a new HU AND keep the panel display in tact?

I just think it's gonna look dumb to have this bar of light... displaying absolutely nothing. Hate to say it but, I'll probably just keep things the way they are if that's gonna be the case. (I just know that'll bug the s*** outta me.)

The Metra kit retains the display. You'll still have the climate controls appear on the screen, you lose the clock & obviously the audio.

I didn't do it, but supposedly if you don't disconnect the power the clock will stay. If you ever disconnect the battery it will go away and you have to reconnect the factory HU to reset it.

he's right..I just put in my new headunit today, it will still retain the temp display, but you lose clock and radio display.

clock and trip are functions of the stock headunit.

I have aftermarket HU double din......Awesome system (See sig) no clock or audio but temp display works...

I have a clock on the head unit so who cares
