so i put the injen cai on today and i had some questions about the sound that it makes, obviously the cai will not make the same sound on the msp that it will on a normal car because the cai attaches to the turbo instead of the engine itself. the sound is normal when i am not in gear but when i am there is a loud sucking noise then when i back off - hit the cluch- there is that "turkey" noise i think that ppl talk about, are these noises normal ?? i called mazda and they said to bring it in tomarrow and they will look it over to make sure that everything is ok but it is fine to drive.

any imput is appreciated thanks

The "turkey" noise you hear is normal. It's just turbo surge. The sucking is pretty much normal too, the turbo is just spooling up. No need to take it to the dealer.

There is nothing wrong with your car. The Injen sounds possessed when sucking in air and you'll get the turkey flutter when letting out the clutch quickly under spirited acceleration. I like it and have enjoyed it for over 54,000 miles.

the dealer will just tell you to go back stock if anything since they do not deal with after market parts. all the noises you speak are usually the reasons people bother to even get the cai, since power increases really not not that great. you should prob. do some research before continueing to modify your car just in case.

thanks guys i actually did take it to a dealer and i talked to the head of service and a sales guy who knows his s*** big time and he said that the flutter noise is actually my wastegate amplified because of the intake, he said that he likes our wastegate because it is a variable wastegate which is why i hear the flutter and a regular wastegate would just make a single sound. i love the sound but i never heard an intake on a turbo car and i didnt know if it was normal but now that i know everything is fine im havin fun and makein heads turn yet again!!!!!

hahaha techs trip me out, sad part is people believe what comes out of their mouths

back on topic, your noises are normal.

maybe the tech is wrong but its not like hes a retard or somthin he knows his s*** cuz ive seen his cars but i just wanted to be sure that the noise was normal

compressor surge. i hear that the turbo spins the opposite way when u let the clutch out causing the noise.but damaging ur turbo. dunno though, thats just wut a few people have told me. which is why im thinkin bout gettin rid of mine.

yes, it's most likely compressor surge, but at the low boost levels (under 10psi) that we are running, it will do little harm. i have not heard of anybody blowing their turbo b/c of compressor surge.

well thats a relief to hear. now i will think about not takin it off. just bought a new filter for it anyways. LONG LIVE THE TURKEY!

compressor surge is bad for the turbo and just wears out the bearings. IDK what the hell your tech guy was talking about with the sound from the wastegate. But as ppl have said it is just air going back into the turbo and creates that flutter noise. To get rid of it you just simply need to change the bpv and get something better. That plastic one is crap and does nothing beneficial. But it sounds normal and don't go back to that dealership again.
