Purchasing a CX-9

The dealer contacted me today to tell me that Mazda is now offering another $1000 on top of current incentives over Memorial weekend for new 2009's. I'm seeing quotes now around $8250 off MSRP. Might be time to bite.

Yep. Eventually new inventory will run out and you'll be stuck with '10s that look like cartoon cars

s- plan

What the heck is S plan pricing? I don't know about you guys but a search on the mazda site has 120 cx-9's in a 50 mile radius of me. I don't think they are going to run out anytime soon. People are still buying 08's

i guess it might have to do with where you live....i actually had a hard time finding one - there were probably on the order of 10-15 in my area, ended up compromising a bit on color for ours....

Hi Lou --

"S-plan" is Mazda's terminology for the price they offer to supplier employees, dealership employees and family members, etc. (Just like GM's "supplier pricing.") It's basically the invoice price - incentives + TTL.
But as 1sty said, if you get that, you can't use the coupon on top of it, since you're already getting "special pricing."

I used the $500 coupon last week for my 2009 Sport.
I didn't mention it to the dealer during negotiations, but I did stall him a day or two, until I got it in the mail.
I probably could have gotten him to a little lower price (I let him get away without showing me definitively that I was actually getting the full $4,000 incentive. But I didn't press him too hard because I knew it was still a good deal and I had that coupon up my sleeve.
When he thought I'd given up, I said, "Oh, yeah, I've got this card Mazda sent me, too."
He was quite surprised -- said he had heard of the card but that mine was the first he'd ever seen.
He didn't hesitate to accept it, however, and in fact, took it straight off the bottom line after everything else (taxes, DMV fees, Sirius install, etc.) had been totaled up.
It made the car purchase price right at about $25,000.
Wife was happy with my deal = I'm happy.

Congrats. Hope your enjoying it. Thanks for the info . I had a feeling thats what the s plan was about. I'm calling mazda on Tuesday to get the coupon. Right now I hit a snag. I had work done to my house a few yours ago and just got hit with a big tax increase(being from LI you know how that goes) so I'm waiting to hear from my mtg broker who thinks they can defer some of the increases until I file a grivance and put in for veteran status. I'm going to another dealer this weekend to confirm my choice of colors and options. Will test drive again just to make sure I'm making the right decsion. My oldest will be in college in a couple of years so this might be the last new car for a long time.

Called my local Northern CA dealer today, he said no new CX9 incentives for this weekend. Just curious what area you are in? Do you have an incentive coupon # or anything? Looking to buy this weekend so any help is great.

I'm in Minneapolis. I heard about this incentive from two different dealers (Morries and Walser). But maybe this is just a regional deal between competing dealerships. I don't have an incentive coupon number. And actually $8250 off MSRP is only if you are an existing Mazda owner. I'm not so I'm looking at $7250-7500 off MSRP.

I just found out (too late) that a brother-in-law who works for Ford may have been able to get me the S-plan pricing. But I don't know how much more it would have saved me, if anything, especially since I would not have been able to use the coupon.

On my new Sport, thanks! Yeah it's a fun ride, which of course is no surprise. Handling is super, so good, in fact, I have to be careful not to get overconfident and make a mistake the car can't get me out of.
My two biggest "cons" so far are that the driver's cockpit is too narrow, and the ride is much stiffer than I'd like it to be.
I'm not a big guy, but my right knee hits the console wall, which seems about as high as the border fence down in Arizona. And my left foot nearly wants to fall asleep because there's so little space.
The ride is not jarring or too uncomfortable, but driving on NY-area streets, you feel just about every little (and big) bump on our badly-maintained roads.
Overall, though, I don't regret it.
And I'm going to have to live with it a long time, too, because, like you, my oldest is going to college this fall. But she's just the first of three who will start one right after another!
Guess that means no new car again for 20 years.
Sorry to hear about that property tax increase. Put up a good fight! I've had to do that a couple of times, myself.

To add to the S-Plan discussion, not only invoice pricing on the vehicle but all the options as well. When I was shopping around, some dealers tried to only do invoice on the base GT trim and then the options I added (nav/power liftgate, bose/moonroof), they wanted to charge me MSRP.

I'm sure some buyers may have been duped as well.

But with the current incentives and market conditions, there's no doubt you can do slightly better than S-Plan. But if you are not the haggle and dealing kind, S-Plan is for you if you qualify. I'm sure you can easily find someone working at Ford to generate you a pin as your "nephew" or "bro-in-law".

I did manage to get below S-Plan pricing after all incentives added in. Dealer was desperate I figured. Manage to get him to throw in rubber all weather mats, program the autolock feature (which I end up getting $$ for) and $800 less than S-Plan + all incentives. Only thing is I wanted a Pearl exterior, but had to settle for red :(

where are all these awesome 7-8-9k off MSRP deals for a GT?

I just bought mine for invoice plus an extra 1500 off for the incentive. All I see (no matter what brands) when people talk of super huge discounts, it is usually a loss leader in the paper or the factory went berzerk like Chrysler with selling at employee price plus $3500 in rebates.

Did Mazda do a deal like that? I have not see nor heard of any deal like that, just the typical special financing and rebate.

Not sure about 09, but I believe most folks are talking about any leftovers 08. When I bought mine last year, MSRP was close to $42k. W/ S-Plan pricing which is invoice, then there's a $5000 manuf. incentive ($4500 + $500 Mazda).

Then to get me to decide while talking to the salesguy, I got rubber mats, reprogramming of the lock feature (one can argue this should be free) and close to an additional $1000 off (from ad money I assume).

So, before TTL, it was a bit less than $32k. Very good deal .. even better if they have Pearl White, but I settled for Red. Either that or the hard to maintain black.

Actually, I think bet $30-$35k is a fair price for this level GT. Highlander would have cost more which is crazy. Anything more than $35k, you might as well get the base MDX, or even the Enclave.

Getting my 09 (mfg 4/09) for 4750 under sticker is pretty good for the time I purchased it. Of course better incentives will appear before the new MY just start to roll out. But hey, life works that way.

I am happy and love this vehicle

Boston area for one. There are a handful of us that got those types of deals without the various employee pricing schedules being kicked around.

I negotiated 8K off through finding the same car at two dealers over the President's Day weekend and making a few calls. Relatively low stress to be honest.

I got my GT with sunroof package and Nav for 10K under, it was a dealer demo 08 with 7K miles. This was in South Carolina and they were only offering deals on the 08's

Hi, everyone. My wife & I just purchased a used, 07 GT w/ sunroof, navigation & just about everything else except DVD. We even got the dealer to buy us new Yokohama tires to replace the original Bridgestones. Mileage on the vehicle was just under 20k. Final selling price was $26,500, which was very good for the Denver area, considering that they are in short supply around here. We're happy with the purchase.

I wish to thank these forums for all the very good advice & info I gleaned during my research process. I was a lurker here for some time reading all the discussions & information about the CX-9. This really is a beautiful vehicle and part of me is glad that lots of people don't know about this wonderful car.

Have a wonderful summer and safe driving, everyone!
