protege5 with rx7 brake upgrade??

kooldino - i cant see why this wouldnt work...yes it might need a little bit of customising, but the same distance between the mounting hole centres is a good start. i know that new discs would be first on the need to change list....but you never know

xelderx - keep us informed :D :D :D

Hey! Dammit! No! My idea! Stop! Hehee... I was planning on doing this once my RX7 came back from the shop as of six or so weeks ago, as I wanted to see if I could actually bolt the brakes around the stock rotors. =) The sizes I've found are as follows:

230mm x 22mm discs up front, 237mm x 20mm disks in the rear.

Keep in mind, those are from the FC3S model S4 RX7 Turbo II/GTU ('87 - '88), as taken off of my Turbo II.

I didn't measure the individual brake pistons yet, as I need to pull apart the system to install new brake lines, pads, and rotors once it gets back. If no one else gets to it in the next few days, once I get my 7 back, I'll be speccing the brakes out, and checking that the thread pitch for the lines is the same, just for simplicitys sake, as I have a spare set of brake lines, banjo bolts, and washers for the Protege. I'll let you all know what I find!

If you compare those sizes to the stock rotor size on the Protege (10.2 inches, about 260mm), the P5 actually has larger brakes, but the arc may be a small problem, as they're practically an inch and a fifth larger (30mm). I can also machine out relocation brackets at a friends machine shop if I need to, but we'll see what I find. =)

Yep! As long as the caliper is fine with 293mm discs on the FD's, I can't see why it would be any issue on our cars... The only question is if the brake pressure difference, if any, will cause an issue with brake sensitivity. Like I said, though, once I get my car back, I'll try and bolt everything up and see if there'll be any unforseen issues.

sweet :D

another thing too, according to rx7 sites, an easy upgrade in master cylinder is to a mazda 929 master cylinder. it's 1/8" bigger i think so that'll really firm up the brake pedal

Awesome! I'll look into the master from my roomies place, Autozone. If I can find a good quality one (IE, not Valuecraft garbage), maybe I'll take a look at that to see if it'll fit. =) If I can't have the fastest P5, I'll make up for it by having one that I can throw people through the front of the car with. ;)

Does anyone know what the bore of the stock MC is? I can't seem to find it... The stock 929 one is a full inch (25.4mm), I know, which is larger than the 15/16th's one on theh RX7.
