Hey all, I'm thinking about coming back to the Protege5 family. Its been 3 whole years since I've owned a P5. I have acouple of newbie questions. What is the average gas mileage everyone is getting stock and modded? And what issues have popped up? I want to downsize from my Nissan Altima to something that is going to be alot better on gas and the Protege5, Protege, or MSP came to mind.

So no flaming me here!!

Well you are always welcome back to the family..Only if its yellow..j/k...Just use the search function, I could find the thread for you but i hate the search engine personaly...I know there is a huge thread about MPG on the p5's and all different kinds of tests and stuff...Right now my best to date is 352 miles to the gas light, which is like 25 MPG but thats on the freeway, stop and go will have its affect

I would have used the search function but I hate it as well. 25 mpg on the hwy? Thats what I get with a V6 Altima. I think my ex and I use to average 29 to 31 mpg on the hwy.

It won't be yellow but I'm thinking a color that will not be bright and that yells pull me over. What am I saying I've been looking at Spicy Orange MSPs on ebay. LOL

With an ATX and a MSP axleback and intake I avg 25-28mpg. This is with about 60% highway/40% city driving. Oh and with some spirited driving thrown in here and there. :)

GL with your decision making and no reason to feel like a noob....got questions, ask!

31 hwy trips, but 26-27 or so average with just around town driving

Noissues so far. I keep up on maint. and try to keep on top of things. I do have some things to do though like change all the fluids again.

I average 28-30 mpg

35 point something mpg, was my best and that was just a few weeks ago in California rush hour traffic leaving Disney Land.

In all honesty unless the looks of the p5 turn you on that much more than any other 4 banger in its price range i wouldnt go for it. I mean gas mileage is subpar for a 4 banger like this. My friends corolla s makes just as much power and gets at least 5 more miles to the gallon than me.

injen cai, ms sport axleback on my 5spd got right around 31-32mpg. i usually got to 35x miles before i filled up. no light, either at that point...about an 11 gallon fillup. loved every minute of the p5 except for the exhaust. that drone was murder on the freeway.

That's awesome gas mileage. I have an Injen CAI & Mazdaspeed axleback on my 5-speed and I don't get nearly that sort of gas mileage. I wish I did.

it was. my commute was 30 miles each way, 27 on the freeway doing 75, so it was pretty easy to just cruise and get that mileage. that and i accelerate pretty mildly.

Before modding I was getting maybe 500 to 550 km to the tank.

Now after modding (last mod was a few months ago) I can see 600 to 650 km to the tank. Ask me again in the winter time since that will change.

i can easily get 400+ on a tank of gas. best ive ever done was about 450ish. no problems so far with anything.

Damn! I think the best I got was 360 with the gas light on! LOL! I average about 25-27mpg.

You just pwned all P5's..(fu)

That was on a trip from my place 3 hours down to Miami and back. I was going about 60-65 windows up A/C on all the way with some driving around while I was there. I think I only pushed about 10 more miles outa that tank before filling up lol. That was by far my best tank, I usually get about 100-120 on the first 1/4, 200-210 by half tank, 300 at 1/4 left and usually end up filling up at the gas light around 350-370. However, I have had the same 1/4 tank of 93 in my car for the past 2 weeks or so lol, I never drive anywhere, but yet I have 75k miles on my 2002. I really think the h/i/e and UDP help out a lot with gas mileage if you drive right, and help out a lot when you wanna punch it, so its a win/win:)
