Protege5 Oil Consumption

Well local machine shop around me taking the head to them and having them install the seals was gonna be $85 buck's but I bought a tool to do it myself with the head still on the block.

What? I asked mazda today and they quoted me $1,800. I do need to re shim it also beings that I know almost nothing about heads but do have the figure it out how should I attempt at doing it myself? I have messed with a scooter head and ported it a little bit but that was it I also replaced the valve springs in it.

Stealership is always gonna be more. And my quote was pretty much just dropping the head in their lap and letting them install the seal's.

Ya sadly that's what mine was...btw I read somewhere that the mazda valve seals are different from felpros is that true? I'm considering doing this myself depending on what the tools are gona cost and what my local machine shop is gona charge me. Does anyone know how much the head can be shaved safely? Sorry for all the dumb questions

Do Not I repeat Do Not get the felpro one's I got those the first time around and they still leak oil. So this time around I went with the oem seals green is exhaust black is intake side.

They look similar but don't worry I know they're not and anything internal on a car is never done cheaply I'm smarter than that. Anybody know where a head rebuild how to is? I searched but couldn't find anything I really wana try to do it I just don't wana mess it up

The answers from you guys on this site are amazing. I was using 1 qt every 1500 miles. I changed the PCV ( $2 and 1 minute) and I'm down only 1/2 qt in 2000 miles.
Thanks.

1.) the oil light comes on, it'll look like a genie lamp.
2.) 10w-30 or 5w-30. most shops usually opt for 5w-30 if it was last done at a quicklube joint.

FYI, if the oil light comes on fully, you're probably already toast. It only lights when the oil pressure drops and at that point you're already starving the engine of lubrication. Low oil should never illuminate the CEL unless the situation I described is taking place, and if it is, the CEL is telling you the engine is tearing itself apart.
