in vancouver, canada, where I live, used car prices are probably the highest in north america. even here 12000 would be pretty high even for an MSP.

Factor in that with gas prices & current state of the economy, good reliable cars that get 24+ MPG will continue to command decent resale prices. More people are holding on to their older small compacts, the Protege's niche, for longer than the norm so the demand is up but supply is low.

I have co-workers willing to buy my 92 LX for +/- $2100 and she needs some work but is she's dependable and still gets 24+ MPG as well...

Sadly somebody traded that car in for maybe $4,000 I was offered $3,500 for my mp3. It's more of the dealers ripping people off. Even with such few miles they will never get that for it I wouldn't pay more than 5 or 6 for any protege stock, moded, low or high miles, unless it was an msp with under 80k miles. Idk why people think their cars are worth so much like Hondas with 250k+ selling for $3,000. Or a 240sx that's stock for 5-8000. I found a v6 Mazda 6 manual with 90k on it for $4,000 that's a more reasonable price and it was an 04

Sort of reminds me of used BMW motorcycle prices.
I think blue book for my 03 protege was 4500 the dealer would offer me and if I sold it I could ask 6k

And look around at online dealer prices. An msp will go for 7-10k mp3s go for 7-8k. Maybe it's just me that thinks used car prices are rediculous
