Protege MP3 Vs. Celica GT

Hahaa, take it easy bro. They are my friends, we test drove each other car. We don't race for money, no s***. I suck at race, do I make you feel better now?

Please reply with how HP won't make a huge difference? And how the MP3 could go faster than the GT-S.

MP3 beat GT-S = funny joke
94 Portege LX beat Type R = impossible
:D :D :D :D

i'm not trying to dis you oceanpark but just because it seem's like you never accomplished anything that's why you think the GT-S and TYPE-R are fast i guess you have never road in a car that's been souped up. How many times do i have to tell you that My car ain't stock buddy. Don't hate  and i never said that the MP3 could beat an GT-S auto, i asked if you think it would be a close race after everyone posting that the MP3 is faster than the GT. Quit underestimating everything. what is :impossible is you can't beat a bicycle face it, don't hate

well lets see in HP: here is Gsx awd turbo with 220Hp and well over 200lbs.ft torque. 0-60mph in 6.4sec 1/4mile in 15.01sec

well lets see in HP: here is TYPE-R fwd Vtec with 195HP and well at 130lbs.ft torque. 0-60mph in 6.2sec 1/4mile in 14.87sec

hmm...........let me see are you gonna try and make another excuse don't tell me cause of the weight like i've been tryin to say and the eclipse has over 60lbs-ft or more torque over the TyPe-R and more HP.

Those numbers are true triton but the reason the GSX doesn't beat a type R is because it is all wheel drive. They jump off the line but it takes more power to spin four wheels than just the two in the type R. AWD helps a car get off the line faster but it bogs down in the top end. If you want a fair comparison, you have to compare cars that have the same drivetrain and the same engine type. Not NA VS Turbo AWD.

I know i agree with you initialRES but oceanpark wanted a answer where a car has morehorses is most likely to win i don't agree. i just used that for an example. thanx for informing me on the awd and fwd i just compared horsepower to horsepower. :D

Street Race won't make you a better driver. If 3 lbs of sticker give you extra 50hp, then it is souped up.

I agree that the GT manual would be a close race with our MP3. I also stated that MP3 wouldn’t able to beat the GT-S. Did I start any of those? I only stated my opinion, and answered your question.

Of course there is exceptional, but HP is always one of the major factor to determine speed. Back to the MP3 and GT-S, both FWD, GT-S is lighter, more aerodynamic, 40hp+, variable timing. It is almost better in every aspect.

It might be a close race on the track, but definitely not in a drag.

I drove many cars, and I give my opinion. I like my MP3, it is good, and tight. But we have to admit that it is slow and lack of power.

Triton, don't take this personally, but a stock MP3 will not beat a stock auto GTS. You know tons of magazine numbers so look up the numbers. A GTS is fast. Just because it is auto doesn't mean that it can't beat the MP3. The MP3 is not made for a straight line so it is expected that it will lose to a car with a stronger motor. I love the MP3 even though I don't have one. I like it much more than the celica but be honest. A GTS will beat a MP3.

I got u initialRES i know it won't beat a GT-S auto i was just asking and thought it would be a close race though. Anyways well here then a Eclipse GS-T fwd 210hp and well over 200lbs'ft torque turbo: 0-60mph 6.7sec and 1/4mile 15.32sec and it still can't beat the Type-R with way more hp and torque, well let me see hmmmmmm.r u gonna tell me the weight difference i don't think so and try another excuse. :D

Good, finally you understand the fact that GT-S is faster. Not a close race, but faster is faster. This is not an EXCUSE.

I don't know much about the Eclipse, so I won’t able to give you a reasonable EXPLANATION! I respect the Type-R a lot, as I said before. It is a very well designed sport car.

So for the 94 protg LX(N/A), it is hopeless to win a type-r, and it only happens in dream.

By the way, numbers is only numbers, who give a damn to the numbers? It said 6.7 on the mag doesn’t mean you or I can run 6.7. Go test drive yourself first before rise up a question like which is which will be faster. With 120 magazines data……enough….
:D :D :D

triton....u got lots of different cases and lots of numbers to show to us, haha~
good work~ :D

we understand ur a smart guy, but...plz stop posting up tons of number with ALL DIFFERENT kinds of cars...are u trying to start some kind of debate or what

and stop saying ur THEORY dude...its getting BORING!

Hey I just came home from Colorado, and it's awful hard to filter out all the FREEKING flame-ish stuff.

So. What are we trying to prove, again? Somebody remind me?

aw shawn had to come in and refocus our posts. We were having fun. Anyhow, these arguements never go anywhere so I am not going to say anything else on about it. How was colorado? Any good cars there? I know there are cool roads. Damn I wish Texas had mountains.

Zillyuns of Subarus, Res-san! Legacys and Outbacks as far as the eye could see.. and a good sprinklin' of WRXies and RS2.5s.. the snowboard class instructor was a major ricer once upon a time, he had a Civic with 200somethingHP.. so we had a good talk ^_^ the roads looked like so much damn fun.. I kept wishing I could let Mica loose on them.. anyway, I can't wait for you to get back! Maybe I'll get my neon kit in before you leave and we can go show off and cruise and what not ^_^ And DDR! See you when you get home.

Sorry ladies and gentlemen. As i got off work the other night i went on the freeway to go to my dad's friends house cause that's were he was at showing his friend the new plasmablue hid xenon headlights he got. Well anyways i was at 70mph i notice a car coming up on my ass i went to the next lane let him pass but he didn't he stood side by side trying to show off his car looking at me stayed there tried to toy with me but then he started speeding up and slow down again so i dropt 4th did 110mph left him behind slowed down to 95mph he came up to my side again so i waited till he had a long head start where there worn't many cars did 115mph caught up to him stayed on his ass but i miss my exit to go to my dad's friend's house, but stayed on his ass i got to his side stayed by him at 115mph toyed with him slowed down i sped up and just went behind him again at 115mph he went to the next lane as i was passing him reaching 120mph he stuck his thumb out the window and gave the thumbs up as i flash my flashers to him. the unbelievable thing was i held on the pedal not floored but pushing it i finaly hit 125mph. :D it was a 92-94 Nissan Maxima Se, i new that if it was a new one he probably would have toasted me. But then as i was leaving my dad's friend's house 1hour later me and my dad were leaving got on the freeway he told me on his nextal two-way radio to get in front of him but i got to his side at 60mph he wanted to know if his headlights were blue. They were blue then i notice this car coming up behind me so went to the next lane i asked my dad on the nextal radio what kind of car it was he said celica so i was at 70mph that celica was at least 80mph i sped up as the celica was riding another car the car got behind me the celica then know was doing over 90mph cause i sped up to 80mph i told my dad take him as my dad was quite a bit back there he dropt his gear coming up as i saw blue headlights and his loud exhaust he passed the celica as the celica was doing 100mph he got off the exit and he started going more so i stayed on the freeway with him by his side doing 105mph i see it say's GT so i do 115mph stayed there all of the sudden he comes up to my side like that i swallow my throat. I let him go ahead alittle bit i went behind him i saw GT-S but i didn't see the S as i was next to him that's because the S was highlighted red. I tried to stay with him as i draft at 121mph i was inches away but then i got off on the exit as the celica started to pull hair by hair probably reaching 125mph. I need a cai bad for better performance. :D

Yeah it was a GT-S celica i saw the S afterwords when i drafted up behind him but then i went to the right lane and reached 120mph as he was pulling on me hair by hair and then the exit came up where if i went straight then i would have been heading to visalia. But i think he reached 125mph. I need cai bad i think it hepls a bit or so. I thought it was a GT but then when i notice doing 115mph then all of the sudden he came up beside me like nothing and stayed by my side. So i drafted behind him and saw the S high lighted red. But damm that's ways a race.

I've actually raced several Celica GT's and GT-S's. This didn't take place in "fairy tale rice racer land", it was at a real road race track in Willows, CA. I have also raced them in timed autocross events as well. I was able to beat about 4 of the Celicas in attenendance at the road course. I feel the road course is the best place for comparison as it offers the combination of speed and cornering capabilities. The Celi's I was able to compete with where mostly stock and all of them where manual transmissions. I think 1 or two had CAI's. I have an MHP CAI on my vehicle as well. Interstingly enough the guy noone could catch was in a stock GT 5 speed. The only thing he had to give him the advantage was a set of Kumho V700 tires(very sticky!) and far superior driving skills. The guy that was right behind him was in a 6 speed GT-S He was knocking on his back door but didn't have enough traction or driving experience to catch him. Then there was a Honda Civic Si Hatchback (I think an early 90's model, not sure about mods, but definitely exhaust). Then there was another Celica GT-S that worked his way up from way back in the pack. Had he not started so far in the back he probably would have given the first guy a real run for the money. Now this guy has some fairly serious mods including a completely reworked Hotchkis suspension system. Then there was me in my seriously underpowered, yet excitingly nimble MP3. I mostly did battle back and forth with a Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT(?) wagon (another suprisingly nimble and quick car) Then there was the rest of the Celis and a V6 Mustang that almost everyone lapped (so much for pure horsepower being the only way to judge a car's performance)! Summary: I have nothing but total respect for the Celica. I has more HP and if driven properly can be the most competitive car though the corners, even in stock trim. The above run-down was from the last run of the day when everyone was really pushing it hard and all felt more comfortable with the track and racing on it. We were only allowed to pass in two straightaways and only when the driver being overtaken moved to the right and pointed us by on the left for safety reasons. I hit about 105mph on the long main straight. I wouldn't necessarily know how consistent I was with that or if I went any higher because most of the time I was concentrating on the road in front of me and not looking down at my dash.
I had to pass one of the Celis to get to the position I ended at and in a previous race session I passed four of them. I would never catch them in the straights, I would always get them in the corners. My exit speed from the corners was higherthan theirs going onto the straights so they would have to let me by. That is because our cars have the advantage of holding the corners better. When a Celi caught me it was always in the straights where they had the HP advantage. The Suby was interesting because we were back and forth the whole time, I think the cars were pretty equal performance wise although he had more HP and all wheel drive, but I'm sure he was quite a bit heavier than me and definitely had more body roll.
Basically, in a race with any car it comes down to driver ability. I've driven a Dodge Viper ACR before and when I first got in the thing I could have been easily beaten by anyone here in their MP3 because if you so much as tap the throttle a little too hard the back end will come loose. You can also easily rotate that thing with a little trail braking. Once I got used to it I felt there was nothing that caould beat me. All that HP and torque in the hands of a barely capable driver is very hard to overcome. But I've had better autocross times than a Dodge Viper GTS-R simply because the guy spun out on every run! At the same autocross I was beaten by a Celica GT. I've also been beaten in autocross by a (gulp!) Saturn! Granted, he had autocross specific Kumho's on his car and it was by about a second that he beat me but he nonetheless did! I KNOW that my car is better than some Saturn family sedan, but I made some mistakes that day and squandered the mechanical superirority my car had over the other. Can a MP3 beat a Celica GT-S? Absolutely. Can a Celica GT-S beat an MP3? Absolutely.

The funny part of triton's story is that he was looking at his speedo so much and so worried abut toying with this guy that he missed his exit! :D

NO unfortunately i miss the exit cause he started to toy with me so i went sraight and caught up to him i said that if i was to keep on going straight i would have miss my last exit but didn't so i got off but i was going 121mph then he started to pull hair by hair on me so i got off. :D
