Protege in dash CD changer in a Miata?

Hi,
I've heard that the OEM stereo (which includes radio and 6-disc in-dash CD changer) from a 2002/3 Pretege will fit into a Miata, with the proper harness. Do you guys know anything about this? I just bought the stereo off eBay and am looking for the harness, as well as any info about the install.

Thanks!!

The sticky in the car audio section has all the info you will need, including the PN for the harness...

the harness you'll need is what's called a reverse harness.
These are the two companies who make them, both are kind of tricky to get ahold of it seems. eIther way, you may want to lookup a Harness for your miata as well sothat you don't have to do and cutting into your factory wire.s basically you'll have one plug that goes into your stock stuff, you soder or crimp those to the matching ones on reverse harness, and then you plug that into the Protege stereo...

A STOCK radio from a Protege5 should plug right into a STOCK Miata from the same year, no harness needed.

I'm about 90% sure that there is a different connecter because I was once given a miata connecter and told it "should fit"

My Miata is a 94, not the same year. Thanks!

Poseur: Thanks I'll check them out.

so basically I'll need to get 2 harnesses: 1 to plug into the car and the other plugs into the Protege unit, and then connect these 2 harnesses together somehow? Any other advice?

Thanks!!

Connect between the harneses with either solder and shrink-wrap or tape, or crimp-connections. Also don't be afriad to shorten the wires, just make sure you leave enough room to cut each off and re-connect a time or 2. And ina ll honesty, you don't truely need both harnesses, the harness for your car can simply be cutoff, and then you have to figure which wires correspond to what function and match them up to the harness that'll plug into the protege deck. THe dual harness thing jsut makes life alot easier.
