For some reason i feel is ver dificult to surpass 110mph. What could be causing this to happen? Also I notice that the revolutions somethins goes up and down abruptly (NOT always). Full maintaince is done to the car (oil, sparks, belt etc.)(screwy)

I toped my babii off ONCE just out of curiosity and I got her to just above 120 but that was just with a rebuilt hpretty much stock. Now i have a few bolt ons so maybe hopefull I kan get 125 haha

It takes a looooooong stretch of road to get a P5 up to 110mph. The FS-DE isn't really a performance motor. I thought the ECU had a speed limiter on it?

lol this past summer on a road trip to Quebec i topped the car off completely...210km's (130mph??)
My car is pretty much fully stock..no engine mods.
I don't think I'll ever try that again in my P5.

My worry (besides losing my license) is once you get up there, you're running seriously high RPMs for a sustained period on a car that doesn't have the best oil system in the world. Zoooooooooooooooooooooooom BOOM!

So base on what I have just read from you guys, the PR5 sucks? am I understanding this in the right way? I ownerd a 1992 Protege, 1.8L and believe me that little guy used to just fly with the wind. I added an intake (cheap one). Do you think that by adding a Header it will help improve somehow? Maybe changing some electric part or parts will improve the performance?

Wow... Complaining that your econobox won't do more than double the highway speed limit... Now I've heard everything!

Oh man, here comes this debate again...

The Protege5 isn't a sports car. Sorry, mate. It's a great car and I love mine and you can make it faster. But I would never call a P5 "fast" unless you have a boosted KL under the hood.

Welcome to the forums and we're all here to help. Best of luck with your P5. :)

right? its not a nascar race car... its a protege5, you know... the hatch nobody outside of mazda enthusiasts and grandmas nation wide have ever heard of... the ~135 crank hp grocery getter...

Am I the only one with a 118mph speed limiter that was going down hill and all it had... it was just under 120 for about 10 seconds going downhill figured that was about it and let out of it. I wish I had my old pontiac it would do 15 twice ;) of course it will never see that again I mean there is really no point in doing over 80 or 90 much less doing it enough to complain that it doesn't get there fast enough. But your car your life

saves that type of speed for the track guys/gals, it really is hard to justify going over 100 on public roads at anytime not to mention our cars really are not meant to do that.

Agreed my excuse is young and dumb. Plus our cars really aren't very stable at those speeds one small bump could end your fun for good. Its not a pretty sight to see someone wreck at those speeds. It personaly wouldn't bother me if they moved the speed limiter on all cars to 90mph
