Protege 5 isn't that slow...

I would also like to add that I think my P5 handled better than any car I have ever owned.

The P5 looks great, is built well, handles well and is cheap. But anyone who says it is fast has never driven a fast car before.

:( if our slow-teges cant get love from us how will other people think? lol mines is all stock right down to the tires only thing is a modified stock intake and i have to say our car IS slow but its quick i notice it has a decent jump off from the start but it tops out quick merging into traffic is fun with these cars inho. and yes the only reason why i like the cold is becuase the car drives SO much diffrent gotta love that cold dense air does wonders ^^

damn....the only thing i have on my p5 is the k&n air filter (just to save time and some money) and i'm happy with the car. i'm not into racing so it's no big deal to me. more to get me from A to B. that being said, i'm very happy with the car. btw, i have the auto tiptronic crap transmission, which reinforces that i dont race it. i do have fun with it and it handles like a rock..LOVE IT!!!!

It is not slow at all. My wife drives a '03 P5 with auto and I have a '01 Eclipse GT (3.0L V6) 5-speed. One time we were driving next to each other and she kept up with me quite well. Does great on the turns, too.

I'm sorry but that's just sad. Your car with 200 hp and manual should have obliterated hers with 130 and auto. Should not have even been close.

stock manual p5 runs 16 so being 2 secs off makes me wonder if there's something wrong with my car.
The hell you say!?! Tha fastest I've gotten my Stock P5 is 17.00 in the quarter at 81mph. I need to find what my 60' was tho. If I got my Stock P5 into 16's I'd (kiss) it at this point

16.2 is hard to come by for a stocker, there were some members when I went to the track in 16.7-16.9 though think they had atleast springs, but think 1 was least there.
Those were manuals, I think I can get mine to a 16.9 with the sportmatic since I was at 17.2 with bad launch and slipping trans. The times kept dropping from 17.8 down to 17.2 on my second run when the trans was to hot to really function.

The header seemed to make the car a little quicker, intake didn't do much. Remember my location, Houston is below sea level so my times will look much better.

Yep they will be different based on location and different conditions. Hopefully will have a header soon, the car feels like it has more grunt with the catback though only on the highway. Off the line it is still kinda of a slug.

yeah, i have a CM clutch, fidanza lightweight flywheel (not good in 1'st gear, spinning), had wagner header, MSP aftermarket exhaust, ebay intake, nology wires, lighter rims than stock, and i still got times close to stock at the track...engine was hot from running all night which I guess could be a small problem.

i love my car and an happy with its performance as is.....my G/f hates seeing my money go towards my car. we are looking for a house now and that is an expensive process......

if the car feels slow... give it an oil change, check the spark plugs, check the air filter, and check the transmission oil... might as well change that as well... then get rid of all the excess garbage you are carrying in your car, kick ur gf out (im currently single... i can say that), get 1/4 tank of gas and ur all gravy :)

i need to do the above cuz my cars starting to feel slow... itz due for its 60k

Do you have a stock time and modified time on your exact car to compare? Make sure the 60 foots were the same and the temperature outside was roughly the same...

If you want a faster/better Protege5, become a better driver.

Besides, if you somehow expected an econo-box to somehow be necksnapping fast (blah blah...Civic....yah, what the ****'ever), then you should have saved more cash for something more powerful to begin with.

Not so. My goal with my other car was to be fast, get great mas mileage, cheap insurance and be a sleeper. Civics own everything.

Yep, I kinda wish now that I bought another used civic. My wifes 94 DX is quicker than the 5, gets insane milage (38-50), and has so many cheap parts available for it..and I've never blown up a honda.

I wanted a 6th gen SI but all the ones I looked at were wrecked or theft recovery. I still want one even though they aren't much after than my P5. I love B16s....
