Protege 5 isn't that slow...

well thanks for the clarification. i was never much into drag racing.....needs the twisties.
Drag is fun....once per modification.

I always call it the "Redneck Joust." No one gets it.

yeah id have to agree that drag radials wouldnt make the best choice in the twisties unless you want to watch the tires twist and squish all over the place.

Haven't been to the track in this car. My 60 foots in my boost civic were 2.2's on 13 inch steelies and 30$ tires from Wal-mart. Not too shabby for such a skinny tire. It's funny how many V8's can be ripped off the line with a solid 2.3-2.1 60 foot. Alot of them need to learn how to drive. Never used drag radials though. My friend's Civic on slicks was cutting 1.7's...and running high 11's...
yep for sure, i pulled LOTS of v8s from a dig, just need to know how to launch and have the traction to back it up, hopefully when i get my brakes fixed and motor built, i can pull 1.8 or less 60' on the BFG drag radials, we shall see, with the added power i will probably stay at 1.9 60's, then it will be time to upgrade to full racing slicks and pull 1.6's :D

Is it the same with Mazdas and we have to worry about dropping half shafts when cutting really quick 60 foots? Hondas are a bit of a time bomb when they get below 13's and are still on stock half-shafts...

not if you upgrade to DSS! which i have done, although from what juan said on his p5, he was pulling 1.9s also with slicks and no problems although with full slicks and 1.9 60 he wasn't launchin it as hard as he could have...

I have no problems passing cars on the highway, catback exhaust, intake, header, pulley do the trick. I think 1st gear is the best on my car, the pulley really helps out and it rev's very quickly in 1st. The shift between 1st and 2nd i hate, i feel that the rpm's drop too much and come out of its power band a little. I just put my stock wheels back on for the winter and I notice a difference off the line with these. My 17's are bricks, almost 42lbs with rubber. Light weight wheels are a definate plus, the P5 is very weight sensitive.

2 weeks ago I busted a 15.2 @ 98 mph. I have no problems passing people either. Oh and My LSD from a 323 works well.

Surely, you must have more mods than listed in your sig? No? That seems kinda fast... but then again, I really don't know s*** when it comes to drag racing :)

I agree. i can feel the weight with a full tank of gas. even one other person about my size greatly affects the cars acceleration and i only weigh 165.

It kept up = it stayed with you = it was close

what did I miss?
It wasn't what you missed. It was your assumption. You assumed that I gave my Eclipse all its got. I wanted to see how much I need to push my Eclipse to keep ahead of the P5 while my wife was pushing it. Just let it go dude.

So true. I weigh like 210 and one other person as big as me bogs the hell out of my car. I've always found the car to be faster at night and early mornings though around dawn/sunrise. Air is cooler. I like it now, I/H/E, and cams make the car a bit more peppy. Between 3-4500rpm is my sweet spot now. The header I would have to say made the biggest difference. The cams smoothened out the power delivery/curve and the header added a bit more to the power/tq. I love my car :)

Also, with my heavier Exel Ennios 19lbs. without tires, I pull 2.2 second 60 fts. I beat most of my friends off the line. I have a pretty good feel of the clutch. I'll see if I can locate those slips though.

(fkmp5): my best time was not 16.47 it was 16.48 (@ 83.72mph) .. i must have typed it in too quick and didn't realize it.. but either way, i'm happy with the 16.48 (for now) and hope the wagner header shaves a tad more off of that number!!

I'll keep you updated!!

(ps: that's on stock tires/wheels, interior, etc.. just as my car is on the street).

Then with these mods: hks axle back; injen rd intake; eibach springs; wagner shorty tubular header; twm short shifer; kartboy shifter bushings; awr front motor mount; dgm autoexe replica front lip; custom 4ga ground kit; dave's gauge rings; sunroof visor; greddy/trust shift knob; powdercoated shorty billet antenna; juje black shift boot w/silver stitching

ordered: royal gunmetal rota subzeros 17"

(fkmp5):
okay guys, here's my times from tonight:

16.08 @ 85.29 MPH (2.303 60')
16.09 @ 85.38 MPH (2.325 60')

so i'm loving the new header!! I have a feeling if I would have stayed a bit longer, when the temp dropped outside (it was mid 80s when I got there) I could have broken into 15s??

So our car with a couple of mods can be decent but no rocket.

When I do my light flywheel and new clutch install, I'll be curious to see how it affects my 1/4 times. Trapspeed should go up, but I expect 60 ft. to be worse.

I had a civic ex before and comparing the 2 on a stock trim the ex feels way faster than the p5 especially on the top end or higher rpm. When you down shift the p5 from 5th to 3rd the car feels like its still running the same speed.

I only like the p5 because of its interior, handling and its unique look...
