Protege 5 isn't that slow...

Replica, with a header I would be surprised if you beat 16.5. My car with axle back exhaust and AEM CAI hit 17.7 at 81MPH here at Baytown. This was on stock wheels and tires too. Believe me, the stock rims are light and it make a diff. Anyway, let us know if you beat 16.5. See ya around!

What was your 60 foot? 17.7 doesn't mean much without a 60'

Yeah,I agree with what you guys are sayin'.The Protege5 is was not Mazda's top of the line pocket rocket(at the time). That's the MSP job.But it's still hella fun to drive and can hold it's own.especially w/ a CAI and exhaust.Today,I was drivin' my car pretty hard today(like revving to 4 1/2 K and passing traffic left and right) and keepin up w/ my buddy's Spec V.I mean for it's stock hp,it's a torquey engine(unlike a Matrix or a Civic that rely on high revs to get it going).

driving hard is reving to 4500 rpm?
I consider drving hard shifting at somwhere above 5500
you must get pretty good gas milage

how do u get 17.7? are u driving slow on purpose? i'm hitting 16.8 stock, absolutely no modifications...

hard revving for me is around 6.5k-7k

i shift at 4000 on a regular basis...

No,not really.I usually shift btwn. 3-4 K.I wish I got gas milage.I don't drive my car normally.I push it a little.But who knows,one of these days I might go to 5K,(lol2)

I'm sorry but that's just sad. Your car with 200 hp and manual should have obliterated hers with 130 and auto. Should not have even been close.
No, I didn't say it was close. I just said it kept up well. Better than I expected. What was close to my Mitsu, however, was the P5's handling around turns.

It kept up = it stayed with you = it was close

what did I miss?

i hit close to 16.8 with my mods and was expecting better. i agree with your hard revving situations and thats pretty much how i drive. our engines like to be in the upper RPM's, especially in 1-3 gears.

Wow, I hit the wrong button...it's 16.7....my bad, and my 60 ft. was close to two, I would have to dig up the slip and see but I believe it was 1.9 or 2.0.

Ah, ok, that makes sense. (rlaugh)
Although hitting a 1.9 or 2.0 on street tires is amazingly quick.

I really wouldn't be surpized if the header dropped .2 at least. For a crappy bolt on it sure is noticable for me.

1.9 on street tires in a stock p5? ok calling bs on that!, find your slip i bet it was around a 2.2 or worse, if not you are one amazing driver.

Ok, so when you guys are giving your 1/4 mile times are you including your R/T times as well or are you subtracting that time and giving the time from a dead stop as in how car magazines do it. in other words i ran a 17.038 w/ a reaction time of .538. therefore my actual 1/4 mile time is 16.5 not factoring in human error(the reaction time).

R/T is NOT added to the 1/4. You can sit at the light after the green for five minutes if you want to and still run the same time if you cut a perfect light.

Yeah a 1.9 60 foot is some Camaro on drag radials s***. haha

I always thought the time started when the light went....hmm??

no, time starts when you the car goes, you can sit after the green light goes for 10 minutes and then go, and still run a 9 second time...

well thanks for the clarification. i was never much into drag racing.....needs the twisties.

Haven't been to the track in this car. My 60 foots in my boost civic were 2.2's on 13 inch steelies and 30$ tires from Wal-mart. Not too shabby for such a skinny tire. It's funny how many V8's can be ripped off the line with a solid 2.3-2.1 60 foot. Alot of them need to learn how to drive. Never used drag radials though. My friend's Civic on slicks was cutting 1.7's...and running high 11's...
