Protege 5 fog lights

Hey guys, I am new to this forum, and I already have my first question!

I am not sure if I am posting this in the right forum, but I have recently run into a little trouble with my car, nothing serious, just annoying!

I have a 2003 Protege 5, and as of last week, both my fog lights stopped working. Since they both went out at the same time, I doubt that it is the bulbs. I am not sure whether this could just be as simple as the fuse, or whether I need to be concerned about the wiring. My car is now out of warranty, so simply taking the car to Mazda is not an option....

Any ideas guys?

Thanks for your help....

James

If anybody is actually reading this, or can help me, I just checked the fuse, and that is not the problem... Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated...

Thanks,

James

the problem could be the switch...

What can I do about it if that is the case? Does that boil down to a problem with the fuse for the switch, or an electrical issue that will be more expensive to fix than it is worth?

I assume that you checked both the fuse box under the hood and the one in the driver's footwell. (Only reason I mention it is because I was once unaware of the second one under the hood)

There is a "How to" on removing the fogs lamps, perhaps you could remove them and check if there is power there and work your way back to the switch.
It is not too difficult to remove, just takes time.

I checked the fuse bo under the hood and the one in the footwell... The one in the footwell though does not seem to have any fuses that hace any impart over the fog lights, or does it?

The fuses under the hood were fine.......

?

Check the switch inside the car make sure it's pushed in, then if it is check the bulbs in the fogs see if there burnt out

I never push out the botton! I always hae the fog lights on pushed on, and I have tried that anyway... It is just odd that both lights woudl burn out together....

It seems like such a pain to get to the bulbs! They really make it inconvienient......

I am almost sure it is a fuse/wiring problem, just need to see if anybody else has ever had this problem...

I am thinking it may be the bulbs, it is sometimes hard to notice when the first burns out.

Start by replacing the fuse, just in case it looks okay but is defective. Then the bulbs... .

Tht is what I was worried about.... how do you get to those bulbs? I can only access them from under the car right?

No, there's a bolt that the fog is hinged on that you have to remove to remove the fog light from the car and then unplug it, then there are screws on the back of the fog light.

To get at the bolt... I guess you would have to take out the few screws holding in the black plastic trim underneath the car, you don't really have to get up under it though.

there is a little blue plastic clip that holds the wires up tighter, push that out when you get the fog out, it gives you more room to work with. its really easy. also has anyone else noticed that there is a little space between their fogs and headlights? I bent the little metal piece inside the fog up alittle, and now the light from the fogs to the headlights look more solid, and its still acting like a fog, not some useless driving light....

maybe a bad relay before you ripped them out and such i would make sure that they were getting power just go in there with a test lite... second how could your car be out of warranty? u have an 03 with 50k plus miles on it? thats impressive lol
