Protege 5 engine swaps

I'm looking to swap my P5 with the MSProtege engine or anything else that would be good?

is it possible? are there any good swaps?

Man what happened to days of being happy with the engine that came in your car? I thinks it's possible to swap the MSP engine into your p5 but you'll have to replace the engine mounts since they are aligned right if I am not mistaken. Try searching the forumz since there's like a bunch of post on this subject. Welcome by the way.

There are a few different turbo kits available for the P5, as well as a swap from the MSP. For the MSP swap you don't need to do the whole engine, the block and head etc are the same between the MSP and the P5, although the transmission is slightly different IIRC (limited slip diff?). Remember, the MSP turbo is only 6psi, so it isn't like you will be making massive amounts of power right away.

Searching isn't even really necessary, I think there was at least one turbo thread displayed on the protege5 page when he posted this thread.

wtf are you talking about? They're the EXACT same engine. The MSP just has a snail mounted to the front of it and a different ECU... Other than that, internally and externally, they're the exact same. You wouldn't need to swap the engine, just the turbo setup.

And yes, welcome to the forums :)

Your options are:

KL-ZE, been done, physically easy, wiring nightmare

FS-ZE, good motor make more power then stock, wont reach full potiential due to JDM OBD1 harness and ecu being required but is better then stock.

Thats it for motor swaps.

I had a MSP but sold it about almost year ago. I think the engines are almost the same plus turbo. What really made the car was the extras like the suspension, lighter weight and the LSD ect.... Save some money don't sawp, instead throw a turbo, new suspension and lsd on that biotch then you'll be on the right path.

well i have to do a swap on mine cus my stock p5 engine is crapping out, so if anyone kws bout one for sale let me know pm me

why cant new people search. i see a new topic like this every single day...

What's wrong with you? Having high expectations for new people.. shame on you. (squinty)

at least people respond in most of these threads. In the B5 S4 audizine forums you get flamed and then someone suggests you use the search engine, after calling you an idiot and n00b first.

Aren't all 2.0 engines the exact same on proteges?
All FS-DE's in the 3rd generation protege are the same. Not all FS-DE's are the same however.

The MSP was actually the heaviest of the Proteges at 2,843lbs, surpassing even the Protege5 by over 100lbs. Just as an aside.

swap

i have a protege 5 and im doing a complete engine build on the stock block, going from 83mm to 84mm 9:1 commpression ratio forged wiseco pisons K1 billet Rods ACL mains/rod bearings, T25 dual BB turbo kit 600cc injectors, H/O fuel pump AEM FIC... ect much better rout than swaping to a MSP, a MSP swap can cost you UP TO 4k doing it yourself, cause you have to find a car... all the stuff listed above as well as replacing gaskets, plugs wires, timing belt...ect its going to cost me about 4500, 500 more than the swap and its a BUILT engine capible of standing 12psi as a daily. Much better rout and better learning experiance. i thought about the MSP swap but they have side mount intercoolers than are able to stand the stock HP, turbo-kits.com has a kit for the protege that will put out about 50 more HP than the MSP engine, once you have all the above done, all you need is a clutch, flywheel, LSD, and maybe some Half-shafts if your pushing over 320HP. ill Have pics up of my build, im not a big forum guy but look me up on cardomain.

Theres that guy that put the D16 in if you want teh vtaks (and a slowER bad motor)

Actually honda motors last a pretty long time and the b16 has 160 hp and is way lighter than the fsde. But the fsde sounds way better than the weed eater honda. The fsde 2.0 block head and intake mani is exactly the same 2001-2003 with the exception of the mp3s intake manifold. And a few days ago there was almost a complete turbo kit for about 600 bucks

B and D series motors are totally different. Displacement, power, weight, mounting points, transmissions, etc. You can't really compare them. If you were going to do a B series swap you might as well do a gold top B20 or something along those lines.
