Protecting my new rims

as some of you may know, the night i left to go to iraq someone stole my stock rims and tires. so now that im back and i have my new rims, im paranoid. i live in a nice neighborhood so thats why these petty theives come and break into cars...i ordered the security lugs for my new rims, but im concerened about getting an alarm...i was told by a local installer that there really isnt an alarm that would go off if someone was to take your rims, but only a sensitive alarm would work (like if someone was in the vicinity)...that of course would cause alarm after alarm in an apartment complex such as the one i live in, so what are my options? as of right now, im parking so close to my wifes 4runner as to discourage people from being able to fit between the two to take a tire off...any help here?

Paging alarm and wheel locks will do!

No one has messed with my car yet, but I'm a little paranoid. As far as I know, good wheel locks will slow the thieves and one of those alarm systems that will page you when your car alarm goes off works quite well, because if u can't hear it, then u don't know someone is messing with your car. Do a search on alarms....sure you'll find some good info there! Quite a few people have the paging system on their alarm. I hope this helps! Good luck!

I think security lugs, and an alarm can protect your rims. They try to jack your car up to take them off, and i'm sure an alarm like mine would go off.

get 7-sided lugs. PM Equinox for details, as he has them. just don't tell him i sent ya :)

7 sided lugs?

yep, instead of 5-sided lugs. you have to use an adaptor to take them off, like a key. so basiclly you've got locks on each stud.

s*** i dunno...i dont keep the key in my car, so even if they broke in, they couldnt get past them...i guess if someone wanted to steal something bad enough they could get past one lock nut on each wheel, any suggestions on how though?

well i can't see them picking that lock, they're sorta werid, not tough, but akward. They can't cut it, they could attempt to saw through your bolt entirely but i'm sure someone would notice that... I think you're safe with locking lugs, and an alarm.

you go to a tool store and they sell a kit with most of the locks in it. i know out here in cali they have them. What i would do if you are really worried is buy 4 diff sets of locking lugs.. and putone of each on each wheel.. but they you have to carry multiple keys.and i dont kno what you can do with the extras. -=)

i just noticed some motherfucker already tried to steal my rims! i noticed they had taken off one of my lugs then realized i had lock nuts!

damn thats crazy, i wouldnt want to live where you do. ;)

i think 5 locknuts would be good, and hey it might look pretty cool too. ;)

and long term solution would be to set up a camera and catch them, they are probably the same people that stole your old ones.

I'll tell you right now that the factory lock nuts are useless. I lost my key to them and went to les schwab. You know hwat they did. They took a normal deep socket wrench that barely fit around the rounded off lugs and took a hammer to them and pounded the socket on. He then proceeded to take an air tool and spin them off as if they were normal lug nuts.

besides, i have the car parked under my window of my 2nd floor apt...although someone could be quiet enough to jack the car up and take the wheels off, i think i would hear someone banging the lock nut with a hammer
