Project: "Last RX-7" by Herblenny

FEED_Fender_RX7.jpg

In ancient times, parts like the above brace were offered for the Eunos Cosmo but now that I'm working with a genuine tuning shop (TCP-Magic.com)...It may be possible to have such parts made for my Cosmo...Thanks for sharing this pic, Phil!

So...it appears that Mazda is closing the books on the RX-8 by making 1,000 RX-8 Spirit R's

Also, Mazda plans to redesign and re-release the FD in 2017 with improvements. The car should be lighter (weight should be similar to an AE86) and they are looking at started with an N/A 300HP motor, possibly leaning towards turbo models later. The redesigned FD will most likely use the 16x Rotary engine unveiled in 2007.

Key among Yamamoto's powertrain requirements was throttle responsiveness and linearity of power delivery.
He told TMR that the stepped power delivery of the FD RX-7's sequential twin-turbochargers was not ideal for a sports car and that a larger single turbocharger would result in too much throttle lag. Therefore, a naturally-aspirated rotary is the best solution.
But while 220kW might sound low compared to many other modern sports cars, Yamamoto says that the new RX-7 will be light enough to make the most of its power.
While he was coy about the RX-7's target weight, he said it "would definitely be lighter" than the 1310kg FD RX-7, and "probably around the weight of the Toyota 86" (1250kg).

Yamamoto says that the RX-7 will be a premium product, and will likely wear a pricetag that's higher than cars like the 370Z.

Interesting news...Thanks for sharing!

Turned out awesome

Inspirational...Painting the 20B Intake Manifold like that came out great...Looks really slick with the hood open and the whole 7 in view...(2thumbs)

Great shot...The front end is quite aggressive but it all comes together really well...Not like a 7 with just some wild aero parts bolted on...Well done!

Mirrors on fenders get a thumbs up from me!

Absolutely love it!

Yeah, an old-school touch...Nicely executed! (2thumbs)

Its been a long journey and most likely I will NEVER goto SEMA again...

Anyhow, I'm still on the road and thought I check on some of the forums..

CR3, I wished I had met you at SEMA... I should of given you my cell. Well, next time..

Antione, glad you like it. The whole car was put together in about 6 days from complete shell to how it sits. It still needs quite a bit of work but hopefully I'll get that all sorted out soon..

Update - November 8th, 2012

Its been about 2 weeks since my last update... Since than, I've put the car together (not running) in 8 days, went to SEMA Las Vegas, and came back to Birmingham, AL.

I'll try to go through the journey over next 2-3 days.. And I promise you guys, there will be ton of pics :)

To start, I was waiting for my paint and body guys Jonathan Goolsby and his crew to paint the body so I could start working on the car.

Paint we've chosen was BASF Mercedes AMG Imola Grey Metallic with hint of darker tint.

Here is a picture of the car before and after the shell was painted.

Car at this point had nothing on it except stock suspensions and some old school VOLK wheels to roll the shell around.

More coming when I get some more photos uploaded..

Ermahgerd....that color is gorgeous. I've always loved that slate-like color. I could drive any car that color. Wouldn't mind a protege5 or new 5-door STI in that color
My old bosses '01 CLK 55 AMG was a similar color. His was a bit more silver though. That car was fun to drive

Update - Nov. 9th, 2012

Update continues..

When i first saw the car after paint, I decided to clean up the wheel wells and put a nice new coat of undercarriage paint.

But til then, I also decided to drop the rear subframe and do it right :)

I then taped up the wheel arch and went to town with the paint.

I'm glad you did this. I wish I had the tools and time to do this. My wheel wells are so faded and are light grey. A dark black is needed to properly show the body color of the car
