Project Black has Begun! - Colorado

spicy is a forum member on here, you send him $250 and he sends you a flashed ecu, then u send him ur old ecu and he refunds you $100. Not that much horsepower gain but the power band is suppose to be extremely smooth... a lot of the guys on here say its the best mod for the money

I guess I should ask if it helps an auto. Unfortunately, when I made the decision to drive this baby off the lot it was because of work, and a ton of driving, so I was talked into an auto. Is it worth doing for a 4 speed w/ tiptronics?

Thanks

MP3 flash doesnt work on autos. That was the first thing I was going to suggest you doing, but since you have an auto, you cant, sorry.

For some reason the way the injen work it suck better quality air with 2 3/4 pipe than having a universal 3" pipe....I used to have a 95 honda and Acura GSR the pipe is longer even if short ram. Unlike the protege is a little different setup also with MAF is in between the pipe. I just cannot explain why doesn't work with protege's...
The reason why a CAI is better than a SRI is simple... the CAI pulls in cooler, denser air into the TB thus producing a bit more power, yet at the same time, the SRI has a shorter pipe length making the throttle response a lot better. Personally, I like CAI over SRI, but hated the fact on other cars that I would have to remove the wheel to get to the filter (ended up running a CAI on my Pontiac and just left it for about 2 years lol). When at cold starts, the SRI is best until the engine warms up, then it becomes a "noise box" that draws in warm engine bay air... whereas the CAI will pull in cooler air away from the engine that doesn't get as heated as the air from the SRI.

But then again, it is all up to personal preference on what intake to get. I prefer SRI because of the ease of maintaining it as well as the throttle response, but if it were possible to have a ram air setup that was easy to access, then I would go with that or a CAI (knee problems really keep me from doing too much when it comes to SRI and other car work).

And for the record, piping is piping, all piping is the same smooth aluminium, it's just the diameter and length of the piping that really messes with the overall power gains (ie: shorter thin pipe = more pressurized air over longer fatter pipe)

No need to remove the wheel to get at the filter. You can just remove (or pull back) the plastic from under the car to get to the filter.

Damnit! J/K. Not looking for a super power house out of the 4 cyl auto, just a little more spunk. I think I'm going to open her up all the way with in & out and a port and polish on the intake manifold. After that, maybe a 35-50 squirt of NOS. That should be OK.

Still ridin high! I just decided to do this about a week ago. I'm working on some cosmetics first. As soon as I have the body straight, I'll probably drop it on some NJ02's (black w/red stripe). I did order a cheap ass intake and some lamin-x for all the lights. Anyone know where to find clear corners for the front bumper?

woah.. easy there clear corners?

u talkin side markers?

i would say u be workin on the eg to much lol...well if you decide to ride with suspension lmk i got full coilovers going up for sale soon 630 shipped.

No. On the 2003 Pro5 the sidemarker (covers) are already clear. I'm talking the little orange corner lights on the front bumper...the corners. As far as suspension, I'm looking more towards Tokico Illumina 5 ways with Eibach pro kit springs. Just seems like a better choice for a daily driver as opposed to full coilovers. Thanks tho!

So, I guess you could say: SRI are good in the winter (since it takes longer to warm up engines, and too much cold air isnt good either, so the temp in engine bay would be sufficient. As CAI would be more practical in the summer, when your bay is hot due to engine heat and heat from the weather, thus CAI would bring in cooler circulated air since its away from engine, and somewhere by a fender.

What do you think? kind of makes sense right? lol

That is what I'm getting at. A SRI pretty much is the only option other than a really small turbo/supercharger for the quick throttle response whereas a CAI is best for the higher power gains... For example, take 2 straws and cut one in half, suck air/water through both and see which one is best. In theory, the longer straw will net you a greater volume, whereas the shorter straw will bring in the air/water the fastest. This is similar to how exhausts work as well when it comes to piping diameter. Bigger is better for the high volumes of air, yet you want to keep it within reason so that you have no issues with bottom end power as well to get you up to speed.

This is probably going to sound retarded..but what If: you have both? Lol.

Imagine a CAI with an added sri, so basically a y pipe.. one going into wheelwell (cai) and the other end of the Y is a filter..which ends in engine bay (sro) would this cause TOO much air intake?

Just a thought I had for a while now.. haha
