Problems with 2008 CX 9 Grand Touring AWD

Just wondering what problems others have had with their 2008 CX 9? I've had mine for 10 months now and it hasn't been a good decision so far. We've had it in to have gaskets along bottom of frame replaced because they ripped from the ice and snow in the winter. All of the chrome trim around the windows have been replaced due to the fact that it was rusting (this was done 2 months ago and is starting to rust again!!). Rust on the tailgate next to the emblem. Took it in and they wet sanded it and now it looks as though it is rusting again!! Also my 20" rims have what looks like paint run marks on them but it looks as though it is under the clear coat. Now after checking out this site I realize that I need to take it in to have the crap plastic trim on the doors and console replaced because of the paint. Have had the steering wheel stick, so that I can not turn it on. The remote never consistently works. Where do I stop? Has anyone had these problems, if so what did you do?

FYI, they won't replace the center console if your vin falls under the tsb for the silver trim. They only replace the trim on all four doors. We have the same model and I've had to replace the trim pieces and had the automatic seat recall service on mine, but that's it. Other than these two minor things I haven't had any problems with mine so far after about 8 months.

I think there have been a few people who have had the issue with rust on the tailgate, but I haven't heard of the chrome trim around the windows rusting. There are also a few people dealing with the rim paint issue. One person hasn't been able to get anybody to fix it for him.

Hopefully these things get resolved for you. Sorry to hear about your issues.

Ours is an 08 GT that we bought used with 8,300 miles and was driven from Chicago here to Mississippi. That was in May; now it has 14,000 on it. Not a single issue that you mention. The paint is a little weak on the door silver trim, but not enough to warrant a trip to the dealer 90 miles away.

I've owned many Mazdas, some bought new, some bought used. Never heard of as many problems as you mention.

kiwihowa,
Man, take it one by one. Don't dump all the issues at once.

Most of those issues you mentioned have been discussed here by someone else.
Those are early model issues to put it mildly.
(rusting, wheel paint, trim paint, etc.)

>> "The remote never consistently works"
This seems like either the battery is weak or your SmartKey is next to the cell phone (same pocket).
Or, maybe you live near areas where there are strong EMF (such as radio stations, airport, etc.)
We certainly can find out why.

I have owned mine since 02/2008. Only experienced one problem with rear windows not rolling down completely (turned out to be poor assembly - no parts replaced).
Other than that, perfect for 20K miles.

Sorry, but I am trying to take it one day at a time. But it seems as though I find a new problem everyday!! And considering that this is the most expensive car I've ever purchased, it has my gut twisted just thinking of the money I'm dishing out each month!!

32K+ miles on my 08 AWD Touring with no issues at all. (thumb) Only thing besides basic schedule maintenance was to have the front rotors turned at 30K (they were pulsating during light braking).

kigi...sorry to hear of all your problems. I have a blue 08 GT and is by far the most $$ car Ive ever purchased. I've got 13,000 miles on it with only a few minor problems. Had to have the front rotors turned due to vibration. Had to have the silver interior trim replaced. Thats it. I wonder when the "lemon law" would kick in for your car?

I have a 2008 CX9 GT and have had the same problems with the lower door gaskets on both sides, the silver paint peeling on the trim, rotors resurfaced then replaced when that did not work, then told that having warped rotors for 12,000 miles would not effect the pads, had pedal vibrations . Still working on getting it all resolved. Local Dealer Wantagh Mazda is just awful, told me that silver trim was not covered under warranty , gave them tsb # , then told me mine was scratched not flaking, gave them tsb on pedal vibration, they have not acknowledged problem. They were suppose to be getting the area Mazda rep involved, never heard back, called them back they told me rep shows up whenever he feels like it and they have not seen him in a month but I was on the list (BS), After calling Mazda and writing letter, ( the area rep magically appeared) I got the rotors replaced, silver trim and door gaskets done.
Then they bang me for 371.00 for a new smart key, seemed high but maybe thats the going price.

But I still like the 9 alot

Murphcoair,
I am sorry that you had to deal with such a lousy dealer.
I think Mazda corporate has been very reasonable overall once you get to them.
$371 for a SmartKey is on the high-side, but not unreasonably so.
As I posted in the other thread, if you lose both SmartKeys, you will be looking at $800 or more.
This is the same for all brands with SmartKey systems. Mazda is no exception.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I have an 09 touring that has been troublefree so far. I bought mine at wantagh, good buying experience, took it there for 1st service would not honor a coupon I had, said it wasn't the same service(oil change), was annoyed, but let it go. The smart keys are expensive, especially in NY where everything is more money than in other parts of the country. I love mine, hate the monthly payments though.

Good luck
