Hey guys, I am a newbie here.

I am looking into buying a 3 within the next two weeks. I understand these cars are going fast and have a question on what type of deal you guys think I could get (I am a pretty descent at negociations).

Anyways, since I am poor I am just getting the S 4-door with the sports package, thats it. (I didn't see anywhere in the rules that you can't talk about cost, so...)

I have been quoted over the phone for 250 above invoice...which would be right around $16250, I can't remember. Since they are selling fast, I was wondering what you guys think I will make it out the door with. I want it out the door for $16500, think this is possible? Reason I ask is because my friend got a $17000 dollar Sentra for $14000 out the door, but the 3s are selling hot right now.

What do you guys think?

Hi Philliams, I have a Mazda 3, Model s, 4 door sedan, with sport package(that means, 17" wheels and something else, i dont remember). that's all. nothing else. the price was 18350~18400. (they first said 17680, but i said, the numbers would look nicer if it was rounded.haha) and i did get it at 17500. that was about 400 above invoice. a total of 800~850 off. The sport package isnt that big stuff. its just... i dont know... The basic model S 4-door, is about 17800...

Unlike some cars there isn't a huge difference between the wholesale price that dealers really pay and what the "invoice" price is for the Mazda3 right now. Try getting quotes from dealers sent to you via carsdirect and edmunds. At least where I lived they were going a little under invoice for the Mazda3. If you recently graduated or are about to ask about the college grad rebate. Not a lot of incentives from Mazda corporate out at this time but there may be as it gets closer to the 2005 model year if you, unlike myslef, cannot wait. If you're negotiating start at the wholesale price and work up. I think for a 3s sedan with just the sport package its just under 16.

So you believe it is possible to get the Mazda3 for under $17,000? And for the 2005 models, waiting 6 months is a long time when I want it now! How big of a differance does the sport package make (with the bigger wheel rims, and the trim)?

I think you can get to the invoice price instead of a couple hundred over it. You might be able to get it for a little under invoice with if you can get the college grad rebate. The actual cost dealers pay is really less than invoice, but there isn't a big difference for this car. Dealers still make money at invoice in the grand skeem of things.

I don't think the 2005's will be less when they come out, but I'd figure when it's getting closer for the 2005's to come in they'll maybe be more aggressive with the incentives to try to move the 2004. That's just my guess, maybe that's not really how it's going to pan out. I'm not saying to wait since I couldn't myself:)

Good luck with things! I think the Mazda3s with "just" the sport package is a really nice car so have fun.

Welcome! I got my 3s with Manual tranny .. pwr package(windows, mirrors, keyless, ect) alloy wheel(16in) for 16,200, I checked w/ my bank the invoice for the car i got was 15,999 ...Good luck ,, p.s you will like the 3 better than the sentra !!!

Hey guys. I live in Illinois. If I buy one from WI or IN, do I get out of salez tax? How does that work?

I don't know for sure. My current state and the last one I lived in (MT) didn't have sales tax. I know that nearby Washington dealers advertise that OR and MT residents won't pay sales tax. I'm not sure how it works the other way around though. Definately give it a shot. If WI and IN don't have sales tax definately ask some dealers in those states to see if you wouldn't have to pay tax if buying through them. I'm sure they'd love your business. Good luck with that. I was feeling kinda lucky while reading this thread cause I paid no sales tax and just had a reg fee that was like 259 or something for 4 year tags. I'm sure my state is making it up in income and property taxes though. If you can get away w/out paying sales tax that would rock.

$17.4K out the door for my MZ3-5. There are some deals out there - you just have to play their game. End of month, soft sales month, pick out the person with the weakest sales or even talk to multiple sales people to spread the ticket around, test drive one color and then opt for the other, then just walk away.... good luck!
