price on a msp engine + tranny + turbo

any ways im new to the boards and this summer i think me and my dad are gonna do a msp swaap in my probe

anyways we found one in a junkyard and he wanted 4000 for the engine tranny and the turbo set up and i laughed at him
so what do you think is a fair price for a msp motor trans turbo and ecu

get a speedcircuit motor, tranny from a p5, welded lsd from protegegarage, and just buy the turbo from the junkyard

there is nothing special about a msp motor. it is the same fs-de that comes out of the regular 2.0 liter proteges and some of the 626's.

i bought a used fs-de from the junkyard for $500. and i just built the block to put in my car over the holidays.

I dont know what your budget is but a popular turbo swap is changing the stock turbo out with the gt28rs. you can get one of these for right under a grand at lsdmotorsports.com

***dont swap the engine unless you build it. the rods are tiny.

ok becouse i have just the regular fs in it now and i could get the heads ze cams tranny ecu+harness and coil packs then turbo and i should be good to go
and is the garret t3 turbo on protege garage the same as the stock msp one
also i have like 1.5-2g's for this

You can find the MSP turbo kits pretty cheap in the FS section. I would highly recommend a forged motor, I am still running the stock block but I have everything else upgraded and it scares me to drive hard for fear of blowing the motor. I drive it hard anyways but when ever I have the option to take some one elses car I will do that.

couple things that need to be mentioned;

- as stated before, there is nothing special about the engine from an MSP that isn't in any late model Protege, Mx6, 626, Probe etc. compression, cams, rods, crank. nothing in that engine makes it any better for boost that a well cared for FS engine doesn't already have

- unless you have a last model year probe (1997 or so) you won't be able to just swap the engine and computer in. earlier FS engines didn't have the cam sensor and little things here or there in the engine bay. if you are using a distributor style ignition as alot of those cars did its not just plug and play either. you'll either need to get the whole wiring harness and computer or run a standalone.

- using any parts from the FS-ZE in tandem with a boosted motor really isn't recommended. the cams could cause overlap without adjustable gears or might cause you to lose power, the computer is definetely no good for boost and the compression of the FS-ZE itself is unsuitable for boost. thats an engine designed for naturally aspirated power, not forced induction.

- the msp used a T25R, not a T3 turbocharger

- i don't think 1500 to 2000 is really enough to do this kind of build justice, no offense intended. if you have a v6 in that probe, you might as well keep it and boost it. those engines stock take boost pretty well depending on your goals. the probe on my site is pushing 300whp on the stock v6 with fuel pressure regulator and a precision turbo with shot seals.

Ken to the rescue...thanks for saying all the things i was thinking before i got to your post. Honestly dude just turbo your probe...it'll be cheaper, easier, and you'll get more power probably.

is your probe 4 cyl or v6? turbo kl-03 for the win. for if you really want a 4 cyl forget the fsde, if you wanna high HP 4 banger get a FE3 (FE DOHC).
