Premature Tire Wear

So i've been trying to read about this problem, because it looks like lots of people are having the Rear Tires wear faster. I'm at 20km now and my rear right tire is kaput. Can't balance it, and bald.

I told the dummies to rotate it at 12k, cause i know they are soft tires, but they didn't.

Also, I'm sure the alignment specs are too hard on the rear causing the insides to go bald first.

So my question is.....Has anyone else had this and put up a fight for new tires? (i know no body warranties tires). But since the car wasn't setup properly and it will probably happen again, i think something should be done.

Other than that, its time for some tires with a tread rating higher than 120.

you need to rotate these every 5-10k miles. Ive got 16k miles on mine, done 3 rotations, and still have 50% + tread left. Ive been to one autox event with a codriver (10 runs), made ~25 passes at a drag strip, and launched the car so many times that i shouldnt have any tires left at all.

After 12k miles, the dealer wont realign the car for free, so youre screwed there. So it might be a good investment to take it to a GOOD alignment shop locally, and then just buy some new tires.

AVS es100s are an excellent value....

I'm still going to try and squeeze them for something free. Alignment, install, fuk, all i know is that i'm pissed.

thanks for the tire selection opinion, its going to take me a long time to compare a few decent ones that will last more than a season.

20k miles right? youve gotten decent life out of them. Be happy you didnt go through them in 8000 miles like lots of people have.

Yea these are soft tires.. when we (firestone) sell them we don't even warranty them like our other tires... i had similar problem with my car... at about 10k the metal thread was showing... took it down to mazda they had their "tire rep" look at my tires... he came back and told me that he did see something metal-like and he was gonna pull it out but just left it alone and he'd see what he could do.... what an idiot lol... that'd would have been intersting.... anyway.. I ended up with a new pair of tires....

also I find alot of people who don't know.. but new cars should all be aligned when you get them... they don't come from the factory aligned... and these mazdaspeeds tend to have a horrible alignment problem.... i had like 8 weights on each of my rear tires!!! ridiculous lol

well goodluck though

That's a tire balancing thing not an alignment issue.

I've got 16,000 and now replacing them with toyo proxes-4's.
choose the proxes because I've tried a lot of tires in the past, and these are som of the best I've ridden.I would have gone with the bf good KDW's.they are a bit better but a lot more expensive.

by the way it's not that our cars are badly aligned,in fact it's the opposite.they just have excessive camber, causing them to prematurly wear.

but I'm willing to sacrifice tires for better handling.=)

lol in an alignment you adjust camber, caster and toe.. well not all cars have all adjustments but yea (2thumbs)

Well Good news. Mazda is replacing the one tire, free balance and install. I guess my dealership is just nice.

I asked him if we can go over the allignment specs, so it doesn't happen again.

one question though, since i'm putting 1 new tire on, will that mess up alignment and stuff? should i buy one more and keep one spare?

you got seriously lucky theyre replacing it. :)

and no you shouldnt have an alignment problem from the on tire being new.

yea tires should always be in pairs...
well unless you change one tire and the other tire directly across from it is the same exact tire and its not too worn out

I got 33k miles out of mine and then bought some sweet, delicious, Goodyear F1-GSD3'S.
