Usually you may never change this fluid. But I, being a concientious maintenance person, decided to do it at 55k miles.
It came out like brown mud!
Can be caused by high heat. Maybe turbo gives the system radiant heat?
In any case I flushed it with Mobil 1 Dex IV synthetic which is the same as what goes in the transmission.
My factory service manual doesn't show how to change it, but here's how.
Jack up front so tires are off ground. Take 3 screws and plastic screw off plastic lower front part of fender liner on passenger side. This gives access to PS return line just down from reservoir where there is a hose clamp. Undo clamp and let fluid run out. Turn wheel left and right to get more out with engine off. Hook up hose, fill reservoir, (from here forward is in manual) turn wheel left and right to bleed air, fill to full line, start engine and turn left and right, turn off engine, undo hose clamp and repeat procedure. This gets most all of it out.
