Post your relocated MAF/VTA BOV set up

For a journal bearing turbo, I have heard ball bearing turbos aren't acutally 'hurt' by compressor surge. Either way my stock turbo went through 108k miles of turkey through a tiny BPV and it's still kicking so the SSQV should at the very least be an upgrade.

Ball bearing turbo's can easily withstand compressor surge. Our turbo is ball bearing, so there is no need to worry about it. I simply think it sounds retarded so I opted to get rid of it the easy way.

Set up:
-FMIC/SMIC - TurboLife FMIC Kit
-Relocated MAF? Yes
-BOV Type? Turbo XS RFL
-BOV Location?(Cold pipe or Hot pipe) Cold Pipe
-Compressor surge/Turkey? Nope
-If so, when? (low boost, all the time?) Read above^
-Any leaking at idle? Nope
-Current PSI - 11psi Daily Driven on a GT3071R

Intercooler- eBay FMIC 27x7x2.5. Sits where The a/c condenser used to sit.
MAF- relocated
BOV-knock off type s
Bov-location (right after SC outlet "hotpipe")
Compressor surge- no
Leak at idle- Yes, acts like a bypass for the SC. If not the SC would be running 3psi at all times at idle
Current PSI- 9 (upgraded crank pulley)

Compressor surge IS actually bad for the turbo...

compressor surge is bad for some turbos but the turbos in the msp are ball bearing and will not effect it like it would a journal.
also most of the turkey noise is internal wastegate chatter, not actual surge.

posted mine in the fmic how to thread though im running a cx racing fmic with custom piping. HKS SSQV V2 that i had to modify by drilling a hole between two of the chambers. no surge, though ill have to add a pretension adjustment to it. stays open at idle and opens at the slightest difference in pressure. but... no surge =D
just lazy.

Relocated my MAF today
Moved BOV further down the cold pipe away from TB
Surge at low boost, but hardly any at 6-8psi

My install looked so much cleaner before I relocated the MAF, but it runs a hell of a lot better...

Update to my setup. I installed the TurboXS Type-H BOV and it is fantastic. No more compressor surge at any boost level. Great sound.

-FMIC/SMIC - Turbolife FMIC
-Relocated MAF? - YES
-BOV Type? - Greddy Type RZ
-BOV Location?(Cold pipe or Hot pipe) - Cold Pipe
-Compressor surge/Turkey? - Yes
-If so, when? (low boost, all the time?) - Surges more out of boost than in boost
-Any leaking at idle? - Not on the hardest setting
