Post The Best Pictures of Your Mazda

did you beat it up? i dont really hear about transmissions going on proteges a lot.

Can't say I didn't have fun on country roads from time to time, but in general I really wasn't that hard on it. And I feel like I know how to shift and drive moderately well. I've never had tranny problems on any other car. I drove my FC rx-7 wayyyyy harder than my protege, lol. And I never blew a motor or tranny in the 3 years I had it. In 4 years of having the protege I went through 1 motor and 3 tranny's. I'll discount the first tranny and the motor as it was within the first year of me owning the car and the prior owner/car dealership were some schmucks, lol. But #2 & #3 transmission were the last straws for me. (thumb)

Mazda revised the g15 transmissions half way through 2002 because of the elevated amount of transmission failures... I've heard of plenty. It's typically the 3/4 fork that snaps or the 3rd gear synchros fail. The throw-out bearing had also been found to be problematic and it was reinforced upon the revision as well.

thats cause most blow up the motor before the trans gets a chance to go bad hahahaha :P

Exactly. All around bad drivetrain by Mazda. fs-de and the g15 are both filled with weak spots. I'll always have a soft spot for 3rd gen's tho. Best looking for sure... But I need some ass to back up the sexyness, ha. Preferably rwd or awd ass.

I'll repost a pic to stay on topic....

lol i hear about all these people breaking shift forks, and i got 228k miles on my 02 unrevised trans, PLUS im boosted.
Im pretty much expecting it to self destruct

Already had. Twice... The same 3/4 fork broke 3 times in 3 diff transmissions. I even got the updated 03+ tranny the 2nd time around with the supposed stronger 3/4 shift fork among other revisions.

I'll leave it at that. ;)

how much power were you making and how hard were you shifting?

Ouch I've never had shift fork problems but my original early 02 tranny blew 3rd at around 230whp while granny shifting into 3rd. I am on my 4th 3rd gear with the SLIGHT increase in power ;) (an old version par 3rd was pitted and grinding but never actually broke).

Car is a little dirty but anxious to post pics with side and rear splitters added... front bumper will be about 2" lower after msp lip and new front splitter go on too :)

Least favorite pic...poor samco hose couldn't handle houston heat!

I made them from 1/4" birch ply, then fiberglass resin, then a lot of sanding, filling, painting, more sanding, more filling more painting. It was a nightmare really but they came out just how I wanted and only took like 40 freakin labor hours.

Ouch! I have a black set of Samco hoses I could sell you. I would need to get a FS thread up though.

I haven't seen anyone blow a samco hose looking everywhere on the internet so I sent an e-mail to samco hoping for a discounted replacement for just the upper hose. Thanks though! :)
