Popping out of third gear?

So this is the only answer? just that the engine is pulling on the shift linkage? It has nothing to do with any internals?

I mean it makes sense since this only happens when I am under hard acceleration in a tough corner at the track and I am sure to have plenty of body flex and even though I did DIY the mounts I still see the rear has quite a bit of play, but I cant hold on to the shifter at ever corner. That would be a pain in the back! Not to mention I just replaced the shift forks because I was doing that to keep it in last time it was popping out of third.

Can it be some internal thing like the syncros? I have no problem getting in and out of all gears. and the gears themselves looked great. But not the syncros, they might need to be replaced at some point in the future. but would that have anything to do with this? maybe trans case flex? Bent shift linkage?

any help or input would be great. I am no longer high speed autocrossing, I am now W2W racing and finding stuff like this to be scary at speeds with other cars around me going through corners. BUT I really really dont want to throw parts at this.

wow thanks for all the feed back. does anyone even own a protege anymore? I try and do searches with google and all it does is bring me back to this swell place.

for others like me in the future; I filled every mount solid, and found that the third gear only still pops out even just driving normally (like track touring) not even acceleration. I can feel the gear catch and toss it out. Soooo I called mazda motorsports development and they said it might be one of two things inside the trans and not the linkages or mounts or any of that. So I am now about to pull the trans out for the second time but with the motor as a whole on a earlier suggestion. Ill post back up with some photos of what did indeed go wrong.

i'm having the same issue as we speak.. but with 2nd gear.. sometimes it'll pop out as soon as i release the clutch but usually as soon as i give it a lil gas.. i was thinkin its the synchros but not to sure.. does anyone have the tranny manuall i can downloan from them?? and anyone know of a good place to source the tranny parts??

pulling the motor and trans makes it sooooo much easier. of course I don't have any accessorys so that also makes it much quicker. But I found out that I wore out the engagement teeth on third gear and the syncro sleeve teeth, not the syncros. that was fine. I looked at them last time they where out and I could not properly gauge how bad they where, but when the new third gear came in it was abundantly clear they where ******. so ****** I busted about 75% of the teeth off of the sleeve. put in a new 2/3 hub assembly, third gear, bearing, but held on to the third gear syncro because the new one did not have the carbon friction contact area and the teeth had no wear on them. Also with the mazda motorsports development discount I got some awr front and rear motor mounts for cheaper than you can buy just one of them.

I hope this helps someone, but I will not be able to test this till next season. but even with the motor out I still had to buy a deep well extractor socket from matco to get the nuts off for the rear m/m. damn near pulled the car of the jackstands before they let go!!!!
