Pontiac GTO vs Supercharged Honda S2000

The s2k is "duper" fast because of the "H" badge, duh. Everyone should know this by now. We go through this ALL the time. Honda is always > *

Back to reality:

GTO's are not something you come by often here. But I've heard that other states do have them running around like the Mustangs. Eitherway, who gives a s***? Yuno what I thought last night when I got slaughtered by a new Mustang? "It's kind of cool that there are so many because then it's hard to pick out those who are highly modified." Sure enough, I ran into one and went home crying. I think it's fair for someone who owns a GTO (6.0) to think it's duper fast. They are..

I like the S2K for the same reason Donas does, they are roadsters. You can toss them around.

...I'd still have a GTO over a S2K though...(obviously)

The two cars aren't even comparable. One is a purpose built roadster, the other is an excuse to do burnouts.

not true.. i think the GTO is a beautiful car to cruse on a nice summer day

Yup. The car will throw you back in each gear. It never stops pulling.

But for someone who knows..purchase the one you want no matter what. Give yourself time to save up so you can afford the 6.0. You'll be highly upset if you buy the 5.7 knowing if you just waited a bit longer you could have gotten the 6.0. This is what happened to me in my first Miata.

Do you honestly feel a power difference between 5.7 and 6.0?

I felt a difference, so did a friend of mine who knows squat about cars. Do what I did, go over to ls2gto.com (will be ls1gto.com as well) and do some talking to members, etc. They are REALLY informative and help the newbs a lot.

Yes, oh yes you can. You can always feel 50 extra ponies and the extra torque too. Althoguh you could get your 5.7L to about the same levels with some mods but I'd rather have it from the get go under warranty.

PS: Can I borrow your GTO when you get it..... (drive2)

Yeah the GTO forums are really full of cool guys and gals. They are a power mad bunch to be sure (and will all that power under their foot who can blame then) but they are very nice.

They are a great community. Most of them are the older generation that had GTO's back when they were kids. Also, most of them come in twos. In other words, hubby has one and so does wife. It's a wide-spread group of people. Ages usually range from the mid 20s to 50s. Also, it's hard to compete with most of them when it comes to power. Most GTO's on that forum are pretty nicely modified and pushing some pretty decent numbers.

One thing I found out about the GTO is that parts are NOT cheap. That was one downfall I found to potentially owning one.

I had drove both and own 1. Obviously I made my choice the s2000 even though the GTO was cheaper. The s2000 had everything I wanted. Droptop, focused interior, superb handling, and purposeful mission. The GTO was just fast in a straight line and handled decently enough. There was more stuff in the interior but I wouldn't call it nicer. If my priorities were different I might have went with the S2000 but I didn't cross shop it seriously. No one that is seriously looking at the S is going to look at the GTO. It's polar opposites.

agreed! I'd be cross shoppping an S2k with a MS Miata, Lotus Elise, Solstice GXP and the GTO with a stang GT and possibly the charger SRT8.

The LS2 is faster out of the box but, the LS1 has a lot more parts available.

The differences between the the LS1 and LS2 are;

LS2 = bigger brakes, split dual exhaust, and the scoops on the hood.

The GTO is a great car. I would much rather have a car that I see maybe once a week than a car I see 30 times a week.

2004 MY Total Production: 15,740
2005 MY Total Production: 11,069
2006 MY Total Production: 13,948
Total Production: 40,757 Compare is number to the Mustang's total production or any car for that matter. I'm just saying that it is a rare car and they are fast.

Bingo!

i just want the motor to swap into something really small and light with and independent rear suspension... im not going to name the car because some people will bash, but i know some of you get the idea and know that it is a killer setup no matter what you say.
as for the GTO itself... i love it, good looks and TORQUE out the ARSS... have they had the fully independent rear since the first run of cars? i thought the first batch had the solid axle?

nope, its been IRS since day one!

Ok, I have driven both the S2000 and the GTO (now own) and the GTO stock wins hands down on everything but sharp handling.

I was considering the Solstice GXP, Mazda Miata, and S2000 as I wanted to feed my early mid-life crisis, it is only by chance that I stumbled upon the notion of getting the GTO as it was in the wrong class, but when I drove one the answers -for me- were clear. If you want to feed you heart, brain and soul with neck-breaking speed and raw power then the GTO walks away from the S2000, and the others.

To be honest the S2000 *NEEDS* to be supercharged to create the same levels of excitement that the GTO can -again, thats for me, but you may find more people agree with me.

Now put the S2000 against the others in it's class and the results are so very different, but they all have smaller engines and far less horses too.

On another note, the S2000's are all over the place like the Stang's, You would be amazed at the number of heads my car gets turned it's way.

Everytime I see a GTO rumble by me looking all cool and bad@$$ (which is about only once a week or so), I feel so much envy. I just want to be sitting in that gentle beast crusing around with my wife in comfort with the full knowledge that stock for stock I could walk a good percentage of the cars around me (not that I would, but I could) especially the smug guy in the stang GT revving his motor. Fit a supercharger to that LS2 and its game over. I love how GTO's seem to slink in and out of traffic sorta under the radar. I don't even mind being mistaken for a gran am now and then. A little REV destroys that notion real quick.

Been there done that!

{edit}
To that let me add, when I have a stang sat behind me at a light I like to press on the gas a little to make the backend sink right down and bob back up... kinda my little wave 'Bye bye'

So true!
