Hi all,
I am a knew guy here. I have a 3 weeks old 2009 MazdaSpeed3 GT. I am adding the Homelink/Compass/ autodim rear view mirror. I ordered the part + installation kit from mazdagear.com. I followed the instruction manual.
I am having problem with electric wiring. I am able to see that the compass is working because I could see the green l.e.d on and I could see the compass reading (N,S,SW etc). But I could not get the Homelink to work, there is no red led lit when I pressed any of the Homelink button. If I switched the wiring harness connector around I could see the reverse is happening( red led on and no green led ).
In the instruction two wire tap are to be done on the wiring harness. One is on Orange with black stripe and another one on orange with yellow stripe. The orange with yellow stripe wire was easy to find, but I am not sure that the orange with the black stripe was the correct one. The best that I could find was a black with red/orange stripe.
So my question: is there anybody out there that has success doing their own installation? Anybody has similar problem?I was thinking that Mazda might change the coloring of the wire and has not update the installation manual.
How could get the wiring diagram?
TIA

Lucas

Mazdagear.com recommend me to check the wire one by one for continuous power. The Homelink needs to be connected with a wire that will be on, even with the ignition in the off position. Anybody knows the best way to do this?

Had the Same Problem

It is a common mistake to use the orange and black wire: I had mine installed by a mazda tech and they installed it incorrectly. Everything worked, except the Homelink buttons. You need to tap the solid red wire with silver dots, about 1 inch apart, instead.

The instructions that come with the mirror are wrong. There's actually a TSB for this but I think most of the Mazda techs aren't aware of it and even they installed my Homelink mirror incorrectly, tapping off the orange and black wire as stated in the instructions. You need to tap into one of the red wires. I forgot if it had silver dots on it or not though. It took me a while to figure this out but it drove me nuts!

Problem solved!

Thanks everyone for your help. I was told that the instructions that came with the kit was for Mazda 3. Just to reiterate and confirm for out Mazdaspeed 3 the correct wire for the Homelink is the solid red wire with single silver dots ( NOT the red wire with double silver dots ), about one inch apart. Case closed.
