Pitted windshield?

I was able to use a digital camera and take some so so pictures. I went to the dealer with the pictures and they examined the windshield. Unfortunately the day was cloudy so the visual inspection was not convincing. They asked me to leave the photos and will discuss it with the Mazda rep, who is due to visit this week. Ed

Love to hear an update, have you heard anything from the Mazda rep?

About a month ago I test drove a CX5 that had the exact same issue, the windshield looked pitted. Like it had been through a sandstorm, very small pits that only showed when the sun was low on the windshield. I purchased a different CX5 not long after that and looked for the issue on the new car and didnt see anything at the time of purchase, I just noticed today the exact same thing on my car and it has under 100 miles on it. I would be very interested in hearing if they have acknowledge an issue with CX5 windshields or how this can be corrected before I take it in to my dealership.

I heard from my dealer this morning and have an appointment to see the dealership detailer this Thursday. "If he concurs with me" I will get a new windshield (OEM windshield installed by a local auto glass shop). After much cleaning and clay bar, I have concluded that the speckled phenomenon is within the glass itself because the glass appears perfectly smooth inside & out. The problem is that the speckling only appears when the sun is directly shinning on the windshield when approximately perpendicular (when driving to & from work). Weird situation for sure and never had anything like this in all the vehicles I've bought over the years. Will keep updating. Ed

I went to the dealer this morning and their detailer inspected the windshield. A new OEM windshield will be put in when, they get the glass(nana). This is what I think happened during the manufacturing of my windshield. The front windshield is I think, made up of 3 pieces. A plastic layer is sandwiched between two layers of glass. The windshield is assembled in a "clean-room". If the clean-roon was not functioning properly then dust particles attached to the plastic inner layer. This is my guess since the glass is perfectly smooth inside and out but, appears to have sand size dust all over. End of this saga. I am very pleased that Mazda has stood by their product as they also did with CX7 problems. Mazda cares about the people who buy their vehicles. Ed

To drago65: You need to try to ascertain whether the "defect" is real or not. Try the razer blade test and through window cleaning. If that doen't work then a clay bar.

Good job getting the issue resolved. I bet it took quite a bit of work for the dealer to acknowledge the defect instead of brushing it up to pitting from road debris.

Now.. if only I could get my sand-blasted by 50mph+ winds windshield and passenger side windows fixed for free...

The dealer was quite interested in resolving the problem and no mention was made of my causing the problem. He did say he needed some tangible evidence in order for the Mazda company to warranty the work. We set up a time in the morning so he could see the " little spots" when the sun shown directly on the windshield. When he saw the problem, he said we will order a new windshield and call you. I also had my windows tinted, including a strip across the windshield. He volunteered to pay to replace that also. A great dealership to deal with. Ed

Mr. Hayes,

I could use your expert advice with getting my wife's defective windshield replaced. It has the same issue that you experienced. Purchased the CX-5 from Roger Beasley Mazda in Austin, Texas. Beau Jacobson, their Service Manager said. "I should live with it"

I have contacted the Mazda Customer Experience Center and they are not agreeding to replace the windshield. Do you have any additiional insight from your experiences dealing with Mazda Corporate.
