Glad you found out who did it! That really sucks when you find damage on your car and no note, no culprit, nothing. But it sounds like you did your work, and hopefully you won't have to pay for any of this out of your own pocket.
Not the point, but.. This old (65 but looked well 80) guy ran into our old P5 a couple of years ago as my wife & I were going through a green light at about 35(mph), in light rain. He ran a red light at about 20-25, made a left (full visibility of us from where he was) and crunched right into our bumper. Nothing could be done to fully avoid him by that time, but I minimized the damage by slowing as much as we could, saying "Sh*t!!" the whole time.
So he hits us - of course, our music is still playing. That's the strangest part of most minor crashes, to me. Anyway, I turn off the music, note his plate number and start chanting it aloud so my wife hears it; we'll likely remember it even if he tries to run. Guess what?
F*cker tried to run! Hmm, Escort vs Protege 5, it's not like he can really get away.. I threw the car into 1st and did a quick U-turn in the middle of the interesction (that was actually a lot of fun, in the rain..) and followed him, flashing high beams at him the whole time, for an entire mile.
Took pictures of his car after he stopped, because I thought he'd drive off right when I got out. As it turns out, he was heavily medicated (poor guy) and was pretty incoherent both to me and the officer who showed up. The cop said it was clearly his fault, even though the damage was minor. I don't care, if someone hits me, the car has to be fixed. It's not like I backed up into a dumpster, or something equally stupid.
Seriously, if someone EVER hits your car, get the cops there and get them ticketed. Do it with a civil attitude, but DO NOT let them get away without a ticket if at all possible! His insurance covered the bill, all $1100 of it and our insurance never heard the incident.
